Hey guy's i have a few of the old type edelbrock torker intakes not the torker two. how are they i have never run one but i don't mind giving one a try for the price of some gaskets. i was thinking it may be not too bad with a spacer in an a body with a warmed over 360 with a comp 280 magnum cam true 10.5 to one compression 3500 flash on a lupo converter and 3.91 gears. not looking to win races just have some fun i have an ld 340 on there now but it has a plenum leak i have to get welded up and i want to hit an armdrop race in a couple of weeks. any thought from anyone who has one or ran one in the past?

I'd never spend money on one as I doubt they are any better than a stock intake but if you have one it wouldn't hurt to try it.

I used a 340 Torker intake on a 1968 340 motor that went into a 1965 Baracuda that didn't perform well but the owner used the stock 273 exhaust manifolds with the stock single exhaust system instead of buying a good set of headers like I told him that motor needed shruggy
All motor need to breathe to perform well up The single plane intake compared to a decent dual plane will depend on the cam, converter, rear gear and owners likes and dislike on how they like that intake work twocents

Back in the day, I used it on both my 340 cars.
Ran a best of 11.98 They were the best at that time.
I'd try it if I had one again.
It wasnt a slug by any means..

Thanks guys i think i will give it a go what the heck all it takes is a bit of time and some gaskets. i have heard everything form it sucks to it was not bad back in the day, i am not expecting modern intake performance but it is a single plane so with my converter and gears in a fairly light street car it should work ok. i have no rpm worries so i will report back once i get it on the engine and let you know back to back what it runs like from the LD340 to the Torker340 should be sometime late next week.

They were ok for their time. Back around 2001 when I had the mild 383 in my Dart it had run 12.49 @ 109 with the old Torker. I put the Performer RPM on later and it ran 12.31 @ 110. The RPM was just much better in the 60 ft and 1/8 mile but for how old the Torker is it is not that bad. I believe in a intake test by Mopar Muscle about 10 or so years back the old Torker actually pulled more torque then any other intake they tested on a 440. Not the best hp as a few were better in hp but it had the top torque #. Ron

You have the recommended compression stall and gear for the old Torker single plane design. Should run very well.

Keep old mopars alive.

ok so i popped it on with a 1 inch open spacer and it is good in fact it is very good! with the converter i have it is roughly the same out of the hole but from mid range on it out pulls the LD340 by a fair bit i will have it on the track in two weeks to get some slips both intakes are stock with just mild port matching to the ported heads. i am going to put an Eddy air gap on later in the summer as i have one coming back to me and i want to try and find a more modern single plane to try out as well but the Torker 340 intake is not junk at all i think many guys just don't have the right combo to run it.

Back in the mid '80s there was a very strong running '66-7 Satellite.

340, Xheads, headers, big cam, 4 speed, 4.56 gear, cragars (of course) and a torker.

Of course street racers seldom went a full 1/4 mile, but it sure pulled!

It's about 3 tenths quicker than a stock intake.

wow the torker 2 has a ton more plenum volume than the torker does the 1 inch spacer must be helping it a fair bit. it works pretty good but i can see where if you don't have enough converter and gear it would be a dog!

Yeah, I found that the intake tech moved to the runners with higher AOA - Angle Of Approach, idea being that this allows the mixture to be more directed towards the valve bowl and valve head, sort of more of a ramming effect as opposed to travelling flat and having to make that "giant" turn towards the cylinder.

Here is couple of pics of direct plenum volumes:

You can't bolt a torker on a stock engine and expect magic.

Paired with a .500ish cam, 750 carb and 10.5 compression and its one of the best.

I've swapped back to back M1, Torker and TM7 on my 383.

I like the TM7 best but they are all within a tenth.

The NHRA sportsman world champ runs a 340 with a torker.

So we ran this intake today and it was really good! it was an armdrop event at an old WW2 airfield that is just as it was back in the 40's cool place no grip but really fun and a great place to have my wife make her first passes down the strip ever! it pulled just fine and had a good top end charge all in all i am happy. next friday i am taking the car to an actual track and i will have some slips to get data from.

100% this car sat under a tarp for 27 years it is solid but not very pretty anymore we plan on running it for a season or two then restore. i pulled the #'s engine and trans and popped in a warm 360 and fresh 727 i had kicking around so we could enjoy the car a bit while i finish some customer work and a Swinger i am doing some metal work on, so far the car has been a joy to drive and the wife was all smiles after her first couple of passes!

OK not the best trip to the track! this is a street car so we drive it to the track which is a good 45 min trip if we take the big hwy but with 3.91's it likes it's fuel! so we get there my first pass with drag radials not sure how low to go with psi on the tires so i start with 24 and roast them right through first gear! 2.302 60 foot! LOL! 14.43 1/4 at 96.62 mph next pass drop the air to 18 psi still get some spin but better i think i need to do a longer burnout 1.928 60 foot as i am shifting to second i notice my alt gauge is flat out pegged so i lift pull into pits it is fubar i pull the wires off of the alt to not boil the battery. now i have to limp home with no alt on the battery before it gets dark and i need the headlights! i will go back in two weeks and try to get it dialed in. it feels like a mid to high 13 second car with the torker and fairly small cam should be just right for my wife to have fun.
