About a month ago I found a pretty decent ramcharger body (well for IL). A week later I bought my 05 Durango donor. The last 3 weeks I have been stripping the Durango on Saturdays. This past Monday I took the day off work and got the body off. We left the firewall and front section of the floor. Tomorrow I will take the gas tank out so we can shorten the frame 13". At this point I think my biggest issue will be getting the right gas tank for the swap. It's a budget build so I am trying not to spend a boat load on the gas tank we have come up with because with the frame being shortend, Durango one wont fit it same place. I am using the Durango gauges so as soon as I find out what the ohm reading is on the sending unit, i will be looking for the right combination of parts (fuel pump, sending unit, tank.) My goal is to have this up and running by fall.

Will the RC's fuel tank fit between the rails? Also, with the earlier Dakota/Durango there were two sizes of tanks...one might fit.

Yes the r.c. tank will fit, but tank is for a carb and the fuel pump was on the motor. I need a fuel pump in the tank that can flow 48 gph and have atleast 60 psi. I think all though durangos/Dakota have side saddle tanks. I am looking into the Cherokee tanks and possibly a van tank but they dont have enough psi

You can cut out the Durango tank pump mount and bolt it to the RC tank. The depth of the Dakota pumps I've had hands on have a little room to change the depth, and I think (famous last words) that the depth of the RC tank is pretty close to that of the Dakota tank I was in (at the pump part of the tank).

I pulled two pics and attached them, they're from this build thread on RCC: (reply number 533)

I will have to take a look at that. The 05 tank has the lock ring style pump. I didnt figure I would get a good seal. I wonder if I could cut a section out of the 05 and r.c tank and bond the two plastics together?

A little update. Frame is now shorter thanks to my dad (poorboy)! Yesterday I started to disassemble the r.c. got the dash out, removed the windshield, and started taking the grill out after work. Tomorrow after work I am hoping to get most of the front clip off. I did some more research in gas tank situation. A tank out of a 05-07 caravan looks close. The pump will be sufficient to run the hemi. Just need to get real measurements of the physical size. I found out tonight when I called the junkyard there were two different sizes because of stow and go seats so I have to look into that. It's kind of difficult to research because everything just confirms it will fit a van but gives no sizes. Lol.

what are you doing with the wiring harness off the 87? also in IL and may be interested in it especially the underhood part and the part that goes down the frame to the back.....

I have a couple of people who might buy the leftovers.

I have not been able to spend much time on this swap the last few weeks. I did find out i should be able get a gas tank out of 05-07 dodge caravan with sto and go seating. It measures good and has the same fuel pump set up. It doesn't flow the same amount of gph but will be fine unless i build the hemi for big horsepower which i have no plans of at this point. Unfortunately the local lkq punches holes in the bottom of the tanks. Hoping i can find one on craigslist of fb market place for cheap.

how about a plastic tank off a jeep grand cherokee-----fits in the same place as the ramcharger--has all the fittings you need....

The older cherokees the pump didnt put enough pressure out for the hemi. I scored a tank out of 06 caravan today for $70 with pump delivered. It looks as if it will work out really well!
