Replacing the tank in my car and really would like to keep the tank looking it's best. So do I leave it alone? Clean it and clear coat it? Ideas please. Thanks, Jeff

My guess is clear coat by itself may have rust show up under it eventually. You could paint it silver, but it will look painted instead of real steel.

Maybe ECS RPM or something like that?

I suppose you could wipe it down with a thin grease and then buff the excess off with a cloth. There would still be a light film left that would block moisture from getting to the metal.

We shot A satin Clear Coat in 2004 and it still looks new and other things rusted I should have done the same too.

Same here, new tank in 2005, shot it with a flattened coat of Dupont Chroma Premier Clear Coat, still looks the same in 2019...although I polished the galvi plating up a little with steel wool before shooting it

I've always just sprayed it down with clear silicone once a year.
Was afraid to clear it and have it yellow down the road
