Ok, so I might be going on a suicide mission and buying a '75 D600 grain truck with a dump 300 miles north of where I live and driving it home! Does anybody have any part numbers for service parts for the 361-4 like the belts, oil filter, air filter and ignition system items? I have a bunch of pictures of the truck and it looks good and the current owner says it runs good, but we all know what means! I might put out a request for a Moparts member to check it out for me before I attempt this.

What state is the truck in?

We are still using 2 Dodge trucks on the farm. Basic parts are easy to get.

The truck is in Eastern Washington. I wanted to have the parts to take with me when I pick it up, but all the online parts suppliers don't have the D600 in their option list. I guess I'll have to go to Napa and see what I can find.

These trucks used Chrysler's electronic ignition. So if you have spare parts for other Mopars i would take them with.

300 miles in a truck like this will take you a long time to get home. I would guess 7 hours. Maybe more. Think 50-55 and lots of gas.

Yes it has electronic ignition, so spare ballast resister and ECU will be in the parts bag. It's about a 6 hour drive in a regular vehicle so if I can do it in 7 that would be great, the good thing about the drive is it's all two lane rural so I won't have to worry about winding it up too much until I get back to Boise and turn east, then I have about 10 to 15 miles of interstate to deal with and then drop back off on two lane again. I will also bring two five gallon gas cans with me, I would assume it will get about 10-12 mpg's! eek

I don't know how this truck is equipped but if it's like most then 50-55 is wound up.

10 to 12 mpg, idling downhill. More likely 6 or 7.

It is going to flat line with a working governor. Don't expect anything much better than 8mpg.

my brother did a nationwide search for a travco (liked the look) and bought one in georgia and it looked ok to drive home-----couple hundred ,miles out he threw a belt and the hoses were leaking---he ended up camping at a napa store until the correct belts and radiator hoses were sourced......rest of the trip was just fine....

You don't get a D-600 for mileage.
It will function just like any other truck of the era.

Good luck and have fun with your new equipment...

I just got home from driving 1300 miles with a dodge 700 dump truck. I bought all the stuff like you did BUT not 1 thing fit, so i took off anyway. Blew a inside back tire in the first 50 miles, made it the rest of the way on 3 back tires, and got 7 mpg . Nobody has tires for that truck 300 miles is like nothing! Iook out for bad gas, alt, voltage reg. Drive it during the week and get the parts you need along the way, NOT the weekend like I did. Bought it in ID drove to st louis area 50-55 (top speed) Drove from little America all interstate, was no.1 lot of times

If it has a 6.80 gear and a 40" tall tire, 3800 will get you 66 MPH. It's been forever since I drove one of those but if it has a functioning governor, I seem to recall 3800 was the redline.

There should be a data plate on the door post with all the info like axle capacity, engine, trans and axle ratio.

Did you get that truck from an auction in Pocatello Idaho?

About the tire size, my local Les Schwab has them in stock, I guess that is because I live in a farm community that has a lot of these old trucks in use.
