Who's making good thick-walled rocker arm shafts for BBs that use plain-bearing (not roller bearing fulcrum) rocker arms? These would be used w/ 600# open spring loads and need to be pretty stout to hold up during street & strip usage.

I know Harland Sharp shafts are beefy like the old RAS shafts. However, their oiling holes are drilled differently, so I don't know if that would cause problems w/ oiling at the bottom of the rockers, or if adding grooves would do the trick.

Speaking of RAS... anyone dealt with them now that they're back as Rocker Arms Unlimited? I'm almost scared to call them for price & availability of their shafts, considering how crappy their customer service and order filling time got before I guess the company changed owners or... ? They USED to have some pretty nice stuff, though.

Thanks - Brad

Just bought Rockers from them. Didn't get their shafts because they were 3 weeks out minimum. So Im using Hughes Shafts. I spoke with Gary. Mike at B3 has the rockers now. Waiting on the heads to get back up to him. For geometry correction set up on my TF240s.

Do you recall how much a pair of their shafts would cost?

There was a set of RAS rocker arms for sale in the race section a few weeks back. It was a set that I used to own. I think the seller was asking $700 for them.

If I still used heads with standard-offset rockers, I'd have grabbed those when I first saw them listed. But, I don't, so I'm only looking into good options for new shafts.

Someone may be sending me a set of Hughes shafts to check out, but I don't think they're in the same league as the old RAS parts.

I don't remember what the price was off hand. Once he said they were 3 weeks or so out. I said thats fine. Because I had a set Hughes shafts already. Dechellis Machine offers a .187 wall rocker shaft for the BB. Their stuff looks real nice.

I use Hughes shafts and hold downs. And I use the Hughes roller tip rockers. Been together since June 2011 and still going strong with no problems ever in the 8 years so far. And when I adjust my valves once a year they are never off much if at all. Ron

Hughes used to buy their rocker shafts from RAS but I doubt they still do. That was a few years back........

A shaft for a needle rocker (not a captive bearing with inner race) has to be in the Rockwell 50 numbers or it will brinnel itself to death, because the individual needle is knife-blade hard and its load per square inch of contact is MUCH higher than a plain bearing.
If you have a good bronze bushing in the rocker, and positive oil feed, the shaft can be much softer and cheaper to make. Except for the oil passages, it could be made from cored shelf stock (common fractional sizes) at a slight oversize and lathed to suit.

Can't find anything about them besides some high-dollar Hemi shafts & stands for alcohol funny car-type applications. Where did you see their BB shafts?

More than "a few", unfortunately.

I am using the Comp roller rockers with a liner on the shaft side and 440source HD shafts.....So far, 9.68 and no problems. A lot less chance of roller bearings going thru the engine if one fails. Had many 440source rocker bearings fail in our application over the years. 4 last year alone.

I use nothing but Dechellis Machine rocker shafts on all of my builds. They make shafts for the top fuel boys and do have rocker shafts available for B/RB applications. Chrome plated hardened steel that are .187 thick. The best rocker shafts money can buy......

What the consensus on these rocker arm kits that Mancini sells:

https://www.manciniracing.com/b16alrowibih.html

They are made by Harland Sharp for Mancini and cost $512 for the kit.

fast69plymouth said in a previous thread that they are close in length to the $908 set that Harland Sharp makes for use with Edelbrock (and Trickflow, Sidwinder, Promaxx) heads.

the pic on that flyer shows a shaft labelled "440" i'd guess the .187" shafts are $95 unhardened and $135 hardened. a phone call will say for sure...
