Looks like a factory stamping error on an original tag. E55, 355, must have been Monday morning. smile

Were the fender tags riveted or screwed on the 70 models?

I have heard of them being stolen- maybe the guy just riveted it in place. I am totally overreacting but I would worry about mine being left at a race/show and my car isn't that rare.

Just leave your tag at home. Your not selling your car or need to prove it's authenticity.

Tag looks legit. Engine code looks to be a factory mistamp.

Having an obvious factory mis-stamped car/tag definitely leads to some interesting conversation for the ones that catch it. Having one, only a few have caught it so far since ive owned it.
Maybe someday they will carry an inherent extra collector value like the mis-stamped stamp on ''brewsters millions'' or mis-stamped coins.

There was a survivor 71 V-Code Charger for sale around here a couple decades ago that had no engine number stamped in the VIN, it had only 12 digits. The fender tag was correct though... laugh2

I have something like Rhinodart describes. My 383 GTS's VIN is LS2H8- It is missing the 3. It is obviously the original VIN tag and the LS23 is on the original fender tag. All the SO numbers are present and match the fender tag. Does that negatively affect the value? Would it bother you if you were looking at the car?

I was talking to BigE about that this AM
He told me the early build cars did not always have those belt mouldings .
I did not know that.

it appears to have happened when "for reasons unknown" 1969 E-SERIES broadcast sheets were on the 1970 production line (late-September/early-October 1969)

It wouldn't bother me at all, in fact I think it is cool! penguin I had to change my upper radiator core support because of an accident on my 69 383 GTS so it is not "numbers matching" anymore I have been told... laugh2

So what do you think it is worth? Certainly not $60k. But it isn't a bad project either and a real BS27H0B

I am far, far from an expert but with really rough projects in the 20's I feel $40K for a running, driving car needing minimal metal work is not unreasonable. The green/green is a slight drawback but the column auto I think really does detract in these cars more than a typical b body.

I'm thinking the tag is a fake. Missing M21 as well.
