Hey Gang.
Have a friend with a 70 Convertible Challenger. He currently has air shocks to raise the rear slightly for tire clearance. The shocks assembly has developed a leak and therefore, we were looking into the possibility of rollovers rear shocks that are adjustable. Any suggestions?

Are you wanting to convert the rear suspension to ladder bars or four link to eliminate the leaf springs or are you wanting to add additional weight carrying coil over H.D. shocks only?

Shocks are not supposed to carry the weight of the car on a Mopar. If you are not satisfied with the ride height, do not resort to coil over shocks.

Change the leaf springs or have them rearched.

Yes, I realize that.. But, he doesn't wanna go to that extreme. In the same spirit as the air shocks assisting, coil overs could too..

He has a $40,000 car and doesn’t want to pay $300 for new leaf springs... tell him to get more air shocks.

And that will put FAR more stress on the upper shock mounts than they were designed for. It’s not a good idea.

Air shocks are fine as long as you dont air them up enough to clear N50 15 tires LOL, I run them on my Charger 45 psi, they work great, get the monroe brand, they dont get ruined if the air psi gets low, other brands get seal damage when run with low or no air psi.

Air shocks will compromise ride/cornering. Getting the leaves re-arched to suit is the better way to go about it. Should be around $500 with new bushings, and they can set the height the way he wants it.

iagree x 100 spank spank spank

It also stresses Lower mounts and shock bushings as well. As stated the shocks mounts were not designed to carry the weight of the car PERIOD!!!!

Sorry but I have had to repair way too many cars in which someone chose the CHEAP solution twocents beer

The twisting of the pinion yoke up and down with worn out springs will also cause issues. IMO get the springs done and get a good set of D/A NON coil over shocks.
