I got a 493 stroker and running the comp car xr292hr-10 hydraulic roller cam. Preload is set at 1/2, it has a tic sound. Should I go to 3/4 or is something perhaps wrong with a lifter?

Is it a single click or are all 16 making noise like a watch sound? Double check that one or more lifter wasn't on the lobe when the preload was set. There have been some other threads here that got into this noise bit with hyd. roller cams. I don't know how but some of them evidently make noise. Like you, I would be bothered if there was excessive noise with a hyd. setup.

Everyone of the hyd roller lifters makes more noise than people
expect.. most think it should be like a regular hyd lifter but no way..
I put a set in my buddies 408ci and they were noisier than the regular
hyd lifters.. he wasnt real happy with them but they are still in there

I tried them at 3/4 and they was very noisy, back to 1/2 and much better. Good to know it’s normal for a little noise, makes me feel better I can live with a little noise. Probably won’t hear it with the hood on

If you have 3/8x24 rocker adjuster screws try setting the preload hot at 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn from zero preload and let us know if that helps or not.
If you are running 7/16x20 size adjusters try between 1/10 and 1/4 turn preload hot scope twocents

fast ramps = more noise. if all 16 are "talking" to you then i'd say "nature of the beast".

Is the hydraulic roller lifter noise issue people have mentioned on a fairly regular basis a lifter brand-specific thing?
