Are all blocks for Gen IIIs iron? Is there an aluminum version at all? Just curious. Was thinking about future projects that may use a G3 Hemi.

I am no expert but my understanding is that there are both Mopar and aftermarket aluminium blocks for G3 Hemis. Others here will be able to give you the details.

The most common is the cast iron block, and Mopar also sells a couple aluminum versions. There is an aftermarket block available to that is billet aluminum I believe. Big Bucks

Thanks. So no real options for aluminum block picking through wrecking yards or craiglist wrecks. frown

The old 6.1 style aluminum Gen 3 blocks that was designed and cast by Arrow Racing are sold out from PREFIX. We have one of the last blocks as the 73 Challenger build's 426 engine. There may be some available at Summit or Jegs?

Mopar has a 6.4 aluminum block P5160138 which is cast by TEI that we saw at SEMA 2018 and also there is Gen 3 Perfomance H3MI 357 aluminum alloy block, maybe a few billet options out there that are available but at much higher price.

Rylis knows! Much better and more informed answer than I could give.

Josh could probably answer this better than most. He bought and sold one or two before he settled on the one he used for his build. Pretty sure it’s a high horsepower block. His build is listed here somewhere

1970 Duster
Edelbrock headed 408
5.984@112.52
422 Indy headed small block
5.982@112.56 mph
9.42@138.27

Livin and lovin life one day at a time

There are four new part numbers for aluminum blocks, 2 6.4 and 2 7.0. P5160143 through -146. They're in the latest MP catalog, but still vaporware. No one has any in stock and no one seems to know anything about them.

If anyone is looking for a Mopar aluminum block Send me a PM

I have all the different variants of the aluminum blocks in inventory along with heads and intakes

From the finished 4.125 bore up to the Vaporware series. Lol I like that phrase.

Standard lifter location up to the bushed relocated versions. STD cam tunnel to 60mm roller tunnel.

To date I don’t believe I have seen a 6.4 block machined for VVT.The new 7 Liter Race blocks I have, do have the provisions tho..

In the near future There are going to be more options for blocks avaialable thru other channels.

Mike

I wanted to make a general comment here regarding the blocks.

When we refer to the 7 liter block it is really just the latest offering from Mopar.

We use This block in our 354 cubic inch Factory stock showdown engines.

However you do not have to use this block to build a 7 liter motor.

Our 426 NA engines in stock and super stock use the later 6.4 casting with the added ribs in the valley and on the sides of the block. This uses a 4” stroke 4.125” bore. This block was made with both cam tunnels. And both lifter locations.

The 7 liter race block is a totally different casting and can come with either cam tunnel or lifter location.

Internal parts are all the same and interchangeable. Cranks, rods and pistons. Cylinder heads, Camshafts and rockers are dependent upon the style of block as you would expect.

If anyone has any other questions I’ll try and answer them.

I believe KB is going to produce a Gen 111 block for the public. Not sure what the difference would be in their aluminum block but likely will have many modifications to make big horse power without block problems.
