According to Dedenbear the AS1 solenoid on my air shifter draws "about" 1.5 amps.
Do I need to wire a relay with the RPM Switch to trigger the AS1 solenoid?
Also looks like (Unless I am reading it wrong) the 8950 works by grounding the circuit at the desired RPM. So I assume I need full power to the solenoid and the switch creates a ground to trigger correct?

Anyone using the 8950 Switch to trigger there air shifter?

Used one for years on 2 different shifters. Works fine. It does switch ground on either the yellow or gray wire. Yellow is normally open, gray is normally closed. A shifter solenoid will typically use the yellow wire to provide ground at the set RPM necessitating the solenoid to have one wire hot with the other being the switched ground. Never used a relay, never saw the need just to run that little solenoid for a split second.

Use a playback tach or data recorder to verify the shift point. MSD chips aren't perfect, electronics lag, shift linkage has to move and the trans has to do it's thing.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I was thinking the same on the relay. It's a split second at 1.5 amps and with a glide only has to do it once per pass so the relay shouldn't be needed.
