Have a 68 727 with no third gear. Has new turbo action forward valve body. Kick down linkage installed and adjusted. Also has BM 2400 stall converter, which really seems to bog the mild 440 in front of it down off the line. Car moves in gear at 650 rpm. Are the two issues linked?! Thanks!

I just built my 1st 727 and had no 3rd. 3rd and Reverse both use the front clutch apply- is yours good in R?

If you pull the pan and valve body you can air check the front clutch to see if it’s healthy. If it is ok then look at the valve body.

You did check that the trans shift lever is synchronized with the shifter right? Like you are definitely putting it in Drive/3rd?

Just a noob trying to help- I got a bunch of help and a 727 crash course here lately so I’m trying to pay it forward. I’m the farthest from an expert...

Oh and I have the B&M 2400 as well. Mine moves the car under stall rpm but revs up to 2500 when I goose my 512.

The way I understand it if you spend $1200 on a converter instead of $400 you can get better street manners under the stall speed but with our low stall it didn’t seem as important to me but mine is a street build. I wouldn’t know how mine acts at 650 because it idles at 900 in gear. It does want to creep in D at idle with my foof off the brake but it doesn’t pull down the idle a lot or feel like it is heating up the atf trying to move at that low rpm.

Light throttle? Heavy throttle? How high have you revved it waiting for an upshift? If you throttle back to idle will it upshift?

Tried both heavy and light, no luck. Been up to 4000 rpm with it. Car had third before I changed converter and valve body...

Thanks for the replies! Reverse is strong. Car idles in gear at 650 but idles in park at 900. Something just doesn't seem right with it. Checked for vacuum leaks and found nothing....

Completely disconnect the TP linkage and let the lever come full forward, if it still won't upshift suspect a VB problem.
