I'm kind of lost on this one and have been searching and trying many new things to fix it, but no luck... so hoping someone here will be able to help.

The car starts no problem even after it had sat for weeks at a time. I could start it and restart it multiple times and all good. However I drove it about 40 mins 1 day and it would barely turn over when I went to leave that day. Next day, fires right up. Since then it seemed to get worse. I put in a new alternator even though the old one was charging at 14 volts. New one charges about the same. Charged the battery, would start at first then after running, barely turns over. So seemed maybe it was a starter issue, so put in a new starter, started right up multiple times like before, drove 10 mins, acts like the battery is dead. So thought maybe battery issue despite being a year old... started right up, ran a few mins, acts like it has a dead battery again.

I did clean and check all connections, battery, starter, firewall grommet area etc... all like new. Also battery that acted like it was low, started my 07 ram right up.

The car runs perfect when it starts. Engine was rebuilt, no coolant in the oil or other obvious issues. Exhaust is all new also, including cats.

Anyone ever see one do this before? I did all the obvious things and at this point totally stumped.

Honestly it still seems like the battery is the issue. Did you try a different battery it the car?

I used 3 different batteries... 2 I put right into my ram after the magnum wouldn't start and it had no problem firing right up.

I messed with the grounds more and seemed to spin the starter fast, let it sit an hour, barely turned over... just ran a ground to the block and spins faster than ever, seems like it is a ground issue after all.

I kind of lived with the issue for a while, sometimes it would take a couple turns of the ignition to start, then went to copart to see a truck a month ago, went to leave and no start... luckily had jumper cables and got a jump. I wouldn't drive it anywhere and shut it off after that, would start fine when cold til a week ago. It didn't have a ground the near 2 years I owned it, guess where ever it was getting it's ground from corroded or something.

Weak starters will often turn over a cold motor but won't do so after they get hot.

It was just the ground missing... new and used starter did the same thing, added a ground, spins faster than ever since I owned it.

I bet that's a load off. That kind of stuff is so frustrating!

I did spend 200ish in new parts before it ended up being a 5 dollar part to fix it laugh2 It was a new one to me, but battery way in the back on these cars, otherwise might not have been an issue.

Yeah, my 06 Magnum has always had "sluggish" starter, hot or cold . . . . apparently there was a notice for 300's about changing to a LARGER ground wire ! I actually got that, AND added another ground wire . . . huge difference !!!
