I’m switching over from a 9 1/4 rear to an 8 3/4 in my 74 Stepside. Can anyone tell me if the 9 1/4 backing plates and drums will work with the 8 3/4?

i believe you just have to drill that 5th hole-----need the backing plate shoes hardware and matching drum-----the easy way to tell is measure the offset from the axle end to the axle flange---should be the same....

I may just find some backing plates and save the 9 1/4 to sell as a complete set.

As long as the 8 3/4 is not from an A body you will be fine.
Did this many moons ago with a 77 royal Monaco. The drums from the 9 1/4 bolted up to the 8 3/4 without drilling.

Should bolt up, same BP. My only concern is the flange bolt pattern

I used backing plates off my 84 dodge W150(9.25) on my 70 dart with 8.75 rear. Direct bolt in.

8.25, 8.75, 9.25 and Dana have the same flanges and backing plates.
7.25 is different.
