I just got my Cuda's standard dash back from Instrument Specialties. Looks good. I had them convert the ammeter to a voltmeter.

So, now how do I hook it up?

Thanks

neg to ground. positive to switched 12V, not sure where the best pickup point would be, maybe a switched circuit in the fuse box. EDIT or maybe the blue wire ign1 circuit as that is what the "system" is seeing at any point in time.

Now you have a Voltmeter: Great for monitoring Alt./V-reg operation. But Now how do you monitor battery state while operating car: Charged-Charging-DisCharging?

If the voltmeter is up it is charging. 13.5-14.5 volts is good or you can tell visually with some experience if no numbers (like mine). If voltage is down it is not. I spotted a failing alternator - no charge - by occasional unusual fluctuations in the voltage.

I hooked mine to the 12 volt feed used to power the instrument panel... it is switched and works fine.

I also eliminated a fire hazard.

Gonna post a picture soon. I was gonna give IS a call, but it's the weekend. Probably won't be able to get to it until next weekend anyway.

Thanks

.

While monitoring voltage is helpful; it's still only an Indirect means of monitoring state-of-battery.
With a "healthy" battery & an alt. able to handle any system loads; the ammeter typically only sees
a moderate amp load for a relatively short period: (minor recharge after a start)..

You just need to attach 12 volts and ground to hook up a voltmeter.
