Hey guys, any of you other Valiant owners with a small block, what tire size are you running up front?, I have the typical 165R-15, need to go taller, but realize its tight, headers hang really low. I plan to drive it to tire store Saturday, but want to get a idea of the sizes to test fit, I believe I tried a 205/60-15 and it hit the bolt behind the tire at the bottom of the fender.

I have a 68 Dart and while still a project I have been obsessed with front tire size on A-bodys. Mine will be more drag orientated so the 26" tall MT sportsman will work and I do believe a 26" tall tire is the "right" size. I have a picture somewhere of a dart with a 205/70 that looked pretty good. Not too wide, but definitely had height. I agree that the 165 is too short and I don't think you can get a 185 that will look right.

Also keep in mind that rim width can have a pretty big effect on tire height.

Speaking from experience in the school of learning the hard way.....

20570R15 is the best size to fit any A body 67-72,even with 73-up disc brake conversion.
Rim offset will determine if the tire would hit the fender bolt back of fender and front tip of fender.
4" OR 4.25" offset is best,3.75 be carefull.
21570R15 67-72 will catch the top of the fender with Cragar S/S wheels (3.75" offset) and Ralleye wheels (4" offset).
73-76 A body 2157015 works great with factory disc brakes.

From what I can remember, the 73-up brake set up is wider overall compared to the drum and K-H disc set up. So when the 67-72 cars convert to the 73-up brakes the wheels move out closer to the fenders. Keep this in mind when going with larger wheels and tires.
Hope this helps

Another trick is if the tire is catching the front tip of the fender, pull in the tip by the brace that it connects onto the front frame rail. You may have to elongate the hole in the brace at the fender to bring it in some more.
Tire will clear when turning.
Did that on 68 Dart GT 73 disc brake 15x6" Cragar SS .
Hope this helps

This car has the '73-later disc brake setup, and has a 3.5-4" wide Weld Draglight wheel. I'm hoping the tire shop I'm going to Saturday has wide selection of sizes, the place I checked a few weeks ago did not have some of the sizes in between 165R and 205-70.

Some shop will not keep tires "in stock"
Especially wierd sizes that are not supported by teh "broad tire market"
The new wave of the millenium is nobody likes having money tied up in inventory.

If you run 14’s you can still have some sidewall. On my ‘67 Barracuda I’m running 155R14 which clear my fenderwell headers but I have to have the torsions cranked up for ground clearance. It’s fun to try to check stock on a tire with no aspect ratio, which is an 82 series when it’s omited from the size, because they tell you that’s not enough digits.

I think part of the issue is, as stated above is the later disc brake pushes the wheel farther out, putting the tire closer to the fender. I am going in the morning to try a few sizes and will let everyone which I end up with in case someone else is going to be doing the same. Thanks all for the help everybody!

i used a 205-60-15 on my buddy's 72 duster with the 73up disc brakes.
15x7 cragars with a 4"bs.
the front fender corner edge is roughly a bit less than 3/8" clearance, but has been fine with no touching for almost 1000mi so far.
sorry i can't compare to a 67-69 valiant.
