I have always been into big blocks, strokers and such. Strong small blocks are awesome, always wanted a Gen II hemi, and have been diving into the Gen III world. I bet most of you guys feel the same about the older mopar engines.
My question is what do you guys ( racers, street/strip guys, etc) think of the Gen III engine? Most of the swaps I see are for relatively stock engines, but what about the highly modified engines? Are you impressed with the capabilities that they have shown in an older Mopar, or do you think it is wrong? The gen III is our LS, just want an opinion on what the rest of Moparts thinks. "First Stocker In The Sevens" is impressive no matter how you handicap or rationalize it. A Look At Geoff Turk’s Seven-Second Stock Eliminator Engine Effort

If disaster ever strikes my current bigblock drag motor, it would be out of budget to replace it. An alternative i have thought of would be a 6.4 stroked to 426, and my current alky mechanical fuel injection system made to work with a variable runner length stock intake locked in hi rpm position, with the injection nozzles run in the old Injecter bungs using some sort of adapter. A toilet type throttle body could be adapted to the stock intake. So the cost would be headers, injecter adapters, an adapter ( home made) and toilet tb, stroker kit, machine work, motor plates and ignjtion controller, plus cam ,springs, lifters, head work ought to do it. Off the cuff guess is i could be at 700 plus hp for $6500 or less and i would be within .2 to .3 ET of my $20,000 ++ big block.

When I was at the Indy show a few weeks ago, I saw very little in the way of Gen3 stuff there. Or did I miss it. There was some, but I would hazard a guess that Gen3 stuff made up, maybe, 10 to 15% of the floor space. That in itself is an issue.

Stop kicking other mopars. The old hemi does produce a ton of HP in Super Stock and other classes. One problem with the older iron Hemi stuff is it is worn out being pounded for 40+ years. I you want to talk turkey my friends NA World Aluminum Block and FHO Stage V heads at 572 CI on the Dyno made 1365 HP. It is all what you want to build and how long you want to race it before you rebuild it or have to rebuild it. I remember FHO blown 500 CI Hemi with a 14 71 on it. It made a ton of HP near 3000 about 25 year ago in his street car. There all good just run what you like and can afford to replace or repair. I just wish Chrysler had looked a little farther in the future when it came to the new Challenger. The Mustang was out and they were light in weight and Chrysler did not compete with the weight factor comparing the Challenger to the Mustang or even the Camaro. They tried to even the score with a Helper but that is only a bolt on for GM and Ford. I like old motors in old cars and new stuff in new cars. Yes the new tech works wonders so use it on an old motor and put it in an old car. The learning curve is not that tough, all you have to do is ask any kid that runs an SRT4 at the track to explain what to do and what to buy. My son is one of these people and always bugging me to toss the carbs and run fuel management.

That's when I'd make the jump. Barring a new iron b block being cast at a descent price point.

Another thought,,,,,,,,, add up the cost of prepping a stock block, then subtract that from the cost of a new aluminum block, and how much would it then cost to upgrade? Two other reasons to consider the AL block- Superstockers are now allowed to run the A L block, shed maybe 100 lbs? BUT MAKE another 50 to 60 hp! That is based on results from Dragpack chalengers i know that have switched. Impressive!

Yeah that's the thing with newer builds, lots of 1000 hp dyno queens. Take a look at the more serious HC/Demon guys and you'll see legit et's matching hp claims. The ingredients are there for a high HP NA build but no ones done it yet Thats because most change over to turbos.. its easier and a high HP NA G3 build would probably be the most expensive compared to all other Mopar engine platforms. Ohhhh ya and the old stuff keeps getting cheaper for me to buy. The Gen3’s are almost as fun beating at the track as the LS Chevy junk. Real easy to do, when you have a race car, vs a car that drove to the track.

How could you not be impressed by something like Ray Meyers Car(Sixpackgut). 9.7, 9.8s, pump gas, 3200-3300lbs, stock rocker arms, stock heads ported by him. He took first place in his class on drag week 2016 and didn't turn a wrench on it all week. That wouldn't be easy to do on a small or big block mopar(The ET is easy, the low service and reliability is not)

Been 8.60s at 160s with one in a heavy ass streetcar. stock junkyard block, good internals, stock junkyard heads, stock truck manifolds, a blow through carb, at 3600lbs. And it’s going to go faster with EFI, and some better heads.
Light years ahead of any sb or bb. And way cheaper. You can buy 5.7s for <500 all day.

I dont see how the gen 3 hemi is considered cheap by any means, junkyard motors are $1500-3000 around here where an LS is like $450... Used prices are stupid, a brand new (not reman) from dodge is under $1000, a couple eagle heads is a grand. I buy them this way and a couple hundred for a core for the misc pieces and you basically get a brand new motor less than a used engine.
