Checking out a couple of flywheels that I have and one has a 131 teeth. Counted several times and believe it or not still comes up 131! LOL All the others I have are 130. What gives? Has any one else ever run across this before? It is for a 72-74 era 360. Any and all input appreciated Thanks!

Well I was hoping to get some type of input. I do not think it will affect starter engagement but was hoping some one else had run across this before I put the flywheel in the car. Now I did see an aftermarket one for sale with 131 teeth listed in the description. Summit or Jegs I believe. My concern is it working correctly and not tearing out starter drives. Thanks

Never heard of 131, only 130.
Depends I guess on whether you count teeth or the valley between.

The 131-tooth flywheel is used on Dodge 1984-87 L6 3.7l, V6 3.9l.

Well topside I never did either, that is why I posted here. As many times as I count it comes up 131. John thanks for your input but it does have the proper flywheel casting number of 2264598. It is properly drilled for a 360. So the question still remains. Thanks Again everyone

The ring gear is separate from the flywheel casting and the 598 casting was used from '62 up past '00.

Used from '62 past '00? That's a handy tidbit to keep in mind.

Yes John I know the ring gear is separate from the flywheel, I know that casting went up into the 80’s but was unaware of it going into the 00’s. If it was for one of those six cylinders mentioned, were they externally balanced engines? This flywheel is drilled out for what appears to be a 360, three larger holes on the engine side of the flywheel. I have know idea how to post a picture of it or I would.

I just went on both the Summit and Jegs website and all they list is 130 tooth and 143 tooth, no 131 tooth. But I did find the earlier post. Very interesting.

131 tooth ring gear

Sorry about using Jegs or Summit names I should have just used aftermarket. I did find it on the internet and it was not an OEM part.

If you count peaks or valleys, it will come up the same.

Hmm. Guess I should have looked for ring gears rather than flywheels. Ah well, live and learn.
