I am about to replace the upper ball joints on my '92 Dakota 4WD and wanted to pass on a cheap source for the special socket needed to remove these pains-in-the -*#@ Summit has them for $14.99 in the Sunex brand. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sxt-10214/overview/

I have done those before on a 4wd Dakota when I was a young gun.. one side came out fine, the other side came out but pulled the threads from the A arm with it. Looking back I should have probably soaked them down with penetrate.

Got them out finally.PB Blaster and heat broke them loose.I don't see how you could do this without the socket.Left side went in and torqued to 125 ft lbs per FSM. Right side spins at 50 lbs.I am going to try a different brand to see if it fits tighter. If not then I will have to tack it in place I guess.

Did them on a B-van once, the old ones took 6ft of breaker bar and cheater pipe to remove. Threading the new ones in I got maybe 3/4 of the way in before they would not budge with the same mentioned breaker bar and cheater pipe so they got pressed in the rest of the way. Less than 4 years later the van got destroyed, they were still holding tight.
