Have a 833 with a VIN stamp of 0B116470. Looks like a 70 Hamtramck trans but how can one tell if it is E or B body by the sequence number?

has it always been a long or short tailshaft?
is it 18 or 23-spline?

0B116470 was a Challenger (VIN sequence numbers are assigned in batches)

From a Challenger for sure.

Does it have a small or large front bearing retainer?

It is a long tail shaft 23 spline and not sure on the retainer, I really did not take notice. Will have to check.

It is a large (308) front bearing. After a bath in evaporust there is a paint stamping of 675 in blue on the right side. I always thought that was the last three digits of the trans assembly part number but can find no trans number ending in 675 in the parts book. I’m thinking large bearing 23 spline would be a 383 hp. Any thoughts?

Ok thanks, 6bbgt educate me please. Where did or how did you compute the 675 into e-body 383? Like I said earlier I thought that was the last three digits of the trans assembly part number, but could not find it in the 70-71 parts book.

there is a partial list of trans numbers in one of Galen's "white books"
I believe this list was basically "reverse engineered" from the info on a collection of broadcast sheet examples

the issue is: the numbers in a parts catalog are for a replacement transmission VS. the number stenciled on the transmission are for the complete assembled transmission with shifter & linkage (and possibly more) for a specific application

somewhere there should be an engineering drawing with the full 7-digit part numbers for these assemblies but I haven't seen any (engine assemblies, transmission assemblies, rear axle assemblies, front brake assemblies, etc.)

Thank You, clears it up a little bit. When you came up with the application from the stamping I thought that maybe you had a list of the stamping numbers and what they are.
