Anyone here have any experience removing window tinting? Working on the back window on a PU and man that stuff is tough. Razor blade, heat gun and WD doesn’t seem to do a lot.

Guess I got lucky 15 years ago, removed the film from windows on a w150 I got out of Dallas. Got corner started with a razor blade, and peeled it all off. What was left, easily came off with brakeleen and rag.

This film is on there. WD seems to loosen it a bit but not much

I used a razor blade, nail polish remover and a lot of patience!

I asked a window tint place the same thing and they said they use a steam gun. Also on back windows with a defrost elements they said that usually the elements will come off.

There's a method that involves amonia and a garbage bag that's supposed to work really well. A friend of mine did that on his car and used a steamer for part of it also and got everything off with no damage to the defroster or anything.

Got it off. Lots of razor blades and WD40.

I would get as much of with a blade as you can and then soak the remains in Goof Off. That stuff dissolves adhesive and plastic pretty well. Smells nasty but is pretty benign to paint.

Like I said, got it done. Cab smells from a combination of WD and Windex.

Buddy worked at a tint shop, this is what they did to take off when they needed to .If you have compressed air around, get a corner loose and hit it with a blower, 90 % of the time comes off in one sheet, then lots of a FOAM type window cleaner keeping it wet and scrape glue off with a blade. Make sure to keep it wet and sharp blade with a low angle to glass. Have removed for years like this and no problems.

I've done it a few times and ease of removal depends on the age and quality of the tint.

If it doesn't tear, I've removed the whole sheet in about 2 minutes. When it's really cooked on and the tint is brittle, I've spend hours with many breaks in between attempts.

The glue removal is another big time consumption. Brake cleaner, WD40, GooGone, solvent. All need to be tried to see what works best for you.

I found the glue removal to be the easy part. I used #0000 steel wool and WD. Came right off.

I have the cling stuff but never put it on. I thought it was like those cling stickers or is there more to it then that?
