Well the wife and I just got back from Petsmart as they had dogs there up for adoption. I had looked on line and nothing was said about the origins of the dogs. We find out that the dogs are from Tiawan and are from loose running parents and adoption fees at $650. I was working out of town for three weeks and just got back last week and during the second week my wife had to take our lab into the vet to be put down. She was the last of all our pets and the house is just way to quite so we thought we'd look into this. Our last two dogs were an abandoned (puppy) and an unwanted (3.5yr old) and they were awesome companions. So the search goes on.

Maybe you could look at rescues.I got my last couple of dogs there.
Just look them up in the city you live in and they might be able to help you.Good luck.

Both my dogs are from Adopt a Rescue Pet at Petsmart. Both were "local" dogs. One dog was already neutered and the adoption fee was near $100 I believe. My German Shepard was closer to $300 because she needed the works. The pound also has adoption fees. When the pound gets full they often waive the fees to get the dogs adopted out so there is room for the newcomers. Its worth a call to your local shelter to see if they do that as well.

The pound around here has plenty of dogs that need love. Fees are usually reasonable and all the work is done.

I saved(adopted) all 3 of our dogs. This is our newest. Mine are all private party rescues.

All my dogs have been rescues or adopted from the pound or humane society. Prices are way reasonable and the dogs appreciate it.

$650 is absurd.

There are plenty of rescue organizations that will get you a dog for $100 or less. Here the Front Street shelter runs specials with $0 adoption fees.

Plenty of dogs to be had. Also check craigslist - I got two dogs off there

Our last two were free. I feel $650 is a hindrance for the dogs to find homes. We would like a dog from our local area and we are certainly not in a rush so we will keep searching. Rescue or not, all pet animals deserve a good home.

We used to live by the Humane Society and people would dump dogs off when they were closed. We got two of our best dogs as walk ups to the yard.

I am dead set against adopting or rescuing.

I would consider taking a dog from somebody I know that might have one they can no longer keep, but otherwise I would not.

It might be an unpopular opinion and it might offend people, but there are breeders that breed specifically for the adoption market. Locally the shelter here will let you adopt a dog that is up to one year old for $550. https://hswa.org/adopt/dogs/

People get rid of grown dogs for a reason, that reason is usually because the dog has issues. It is rarely because of whatever sob story they tell you.

Wife had a friend that told her some sob story about how she couldn't keep this dog she had so we took it in.

Biggest idiot I ever met and friend was sporting a new dog a week later.

Best dog I ever had was a shelter dog. I think she was smart enough to realize how close she got to the needle and was determined to not ever go back. We had her 12 years before she passed, then I got idiot dog above.

Yeah people get rid of dogs for a reason. Many times it's because they won't take the time to properly train them or themselves. Having a dog is a commitment people think they want to make until it becomes a little difficult. I have gotten awesome and super smart dogs from the humane society. Some just need a little extra work but they have all been worth it.
