With a spool I would use green axle bearings and be done with spacers and adjusters.

spools are open thru the center between the axles so you don`t have any way to adjust end play since there is no pin for the axle end to push against,so you must use the 'green bearings' .
Oh it can be done. Measure the width of the spacer order axles that are each 1/2 that measurement longer than the stock axles that use the spacer. But why

Ok.. i am using stock axels in the spool .. and i want the stock tappered roller bearings for stronger laterial strength.. Not the ball bearing green bearings.. the is not a street car or a drag car... its another form of racing that some people on here might find offensive.. Needless to say i need the strongest laterial setup possible for my axels, I do not want to risk breaking an expensive aftermarket axel when there are so many c body axels around.... So what could a guy do for a spacer to adjust the end play on stock axels and bearings on a spool..
Another question ..
When you guys twist the splines on your stock axels in a spool does it wreck the spool? and how do you guys get the axel out in a hurry ?
thanks everyone
You wont twist the axle in the spool, it will be right after it exits the spline on the spool. Word to the wise.... paint a stripe down the length of the axle, this will tell you the wind up in the length, about a 1/4" wide

If the hole thru the spool just passes thru I suppose you could find a way to capture a slug of steel in between the axles.

Keep in mind im building this for extreme laterial loads and shock...
thanks again
I dont know, you might be better off using those taper'd bearing then... As far as the length, its hard to say, are these factory length axles? I would say start kinda long maybe a few inches, adjust the axles all the way out. Make sure the axle will fully seat etc.Trim it down with a cut off wheel and grinder. Its much better to take out length than to add. The factory buttons is maybe one inch wide or so. Let me know if you have trouble finding a button, a old axle would work great, be the correct size, and much harder than a piece of mild steel round stock... I might have a small chunk if you need. PM me later, I might be able to help a guy out.

I dont know for sure if the splines on both sides of the spool line up or not but a end of a axle(splined end) would work.... if its 1.5" like said then cut 1.5" off of the axle spline and stick it in there, you might be better off having the spacer shorter and have all the spline you can get into the spool EDIT you never did say what kind of racing you are doing lets hear it.... is this drifting

That's what I am thinking too.
If he is really drifting he will have ALOT less lateral force than he is thinking... a high percentage of the time the tire is spinning reducing the lateral load on the tire/bearing
