Say on an E body, what's involved in losing the drip rails, for looks, aero, etc. Skill set needed? Any hidden land mines? eek
Those that have done it, would you do it again, any regrets?

They are held on with screws from under the weatherstripping so very easy to remove.

Sorry Nanket is wrong....the drip rails are where the upper roof skin is welded to the lower structure....when you cut of the drip rail the upper roof skin must be carefully rewelded to the lower structure.

Take care,

Alternatively, one can trim off the lip for the stainless then fold the pinch weld down into the window opening.

A little more background, the car in question will be getting a full cage, and removing the roof makes that a lot easier to install, so I was wondering if this drip rail removal might be part of the project.

Definitely not a project for a novice welder since re-welding the top skin back on without warping it takes a lot of skill. Basically its not something that will make a difference on the race track either. Good luck though, if you decide to do it.

The drip rail on E body cars is the stainless trim. There is no drip rail made of the body sheet metal like A and B bodies. It is like a flat flange where the spot welds are.

It's still called the drip rail on an E-Body, the trim is called the Drip Rail Molding.

If you want to remove the roof so it can be put back on and look like is was never off grind the body putty off of the front wind shield posts and the C pillar between side windows and rear back glass and remove the factory spot welds and reuse those holes to put it back on scope up twocents
The better race car shops the due complete SFI cages use that method so they can weld the top of all the bars weld
