RT540 top fuel R Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 1,664 North Sweden	Bolting the pump to the block and use the original drive makes things easier to mount and safe some space, good engineering. I looked at the web site and searched for what gear type this pump uses. I had a Weaver brothers 3-stage pump on my engine and it gave very little vacuum. I have bought a used AutoVerdi 6-stage Nascar pump with teflon coated roots style gears and when you turn the pump by hand, you can hear the the air pumping out of the scavenge stages. Roots style scavenge dry sump pumps will work so good, that you can eliminate the vaccum pump. I bought a Moroso 3-vane pump to use with the Weaver 3-stage pump, that I will sell along with old dry sump pump. Dry sump pumps comes in three different types of gears. Spur gears, Georotor gears and Roots.

Im not sure how much vaccumm its helping pull but with the engine at 1500rpm its goes up to 10-12 pounds quick. May not like the idea of a belt driven pump but if you put an oil pressure switch on the ignition power that would likely save the motor if the belt ever breaks.

I use Charlies oil pans that cost about $450.00 and Steffs dry sump tanks. I bought two pumps from JoE Baker and one off ebay. Paid $400.00 for each pump. gillman34 mopar G Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 614 new jersey	I researched this awhile ago when looking for a dry sump system for my current engine.The actual Missle users I talked to told me that gear wear is the same as if you were driving a normal wet sump pump.In other words they last as long as any other bronze gear intermediate shaft.They are nicely made and I heard no complaints.6-8 in vacuum is what I was told is normal for these pumps to make by themselves. All that being said, I went with the Dailey setup like in Fred's picture.Mine is a 5 stage with the pump section at the rear of the suction sections.Dailey uses a roots type lobe for the pump/suctions.75-80 psi at 9500 rpm hot with 0w10 oil with 15 in vacuum regulated,will pull 20-22 with no regulator.I am using their pan and a Steff's tank.It's nice not having the extra plumbing on the left side of the engine.That is the main reason I went with this setup.3 lines,feed,return and pressure to the block. For example my roller lifters were 1600.00 . the titanium valves recieved a special diamond coating which rose their total cost to near $190.00 each. Any dry sump pump that uses roots style on the Scavenge side will be above the rest of the pumps that use only spur or georotor gears. I am partial to AutoVerdi as that is a Swedish brand with very high quality and precision. I bought my pump used for 850USD here in Sweden. As the loobs are coated with a light blue colored coating of teflon, it is pretty easy to look at the loobs and see any scratches and dents in the surface of the coating. My pump is in excellent cond. If I had a bigger budget, I would have bought a new pump with 3-loobs roots style in the pump with wider sections, So I could have the same capacity in 4 or 5 stages that will make the same job as my 6-stage, but with less plumbing. I know that Barnes makes Roots style with 3-loobs also. Don�t know which brands that comes with teflon coatings besides Verdi ? http://www.autoverdi.com/pumps.html

I don't know of too many quick 32 of 16 cars that run hemis, they all have indy wedge motors for the most part.When you are 60 footing 1.0S I would rather not worry about a swiveling pickup failing.If you need it you need it.if you don't you don't.road racing good idea never half to worry about a pickup catching air.On a fast car the same, oil good air bad God made cold beer,good friends,hot ladies and race cars don't spit in his face by pi$$ing and moaning about how life sucks!!!
