I have a customer who wants to buy a new drag race Powergide with a brake and converter for his 1971 S/P Cuda, I'm thinking ATI may be one of the best companies out there for him work
What are you guys thoughts on this? help
Is there another, better tranny and converter company out there for a 800 HP 2800 lbs. S/P car like his? If so who do you recommend ?
Thanks in advance up Cab

Ask on classracer.com and I'm sure you will get an answer.

ATI is one of the best. Location would certainly be a factor in that decision. ATI is driving distance for me, as is Trans Specialties. Both of them are good to go, so that helps. Freight charges and the amount of stuff that gets damaged or fooled with makes having to have something shipped an undesirable proposition. I would ask whomever you decide on about that.

This would be a pretty routine piece and most of the name places would likely be fine.

Another thought would be A1 they build a pretty nice Glide as well and much closer to you Adam and his dad are both very nice people and very helpful as well

I have used A1 and so has my customer in the last two years with not so good results so far whiney , hence me asking for a better company up
I bought a 8 inch race 727 converter from Marv Ripes when he owned and operated A1 in Van Nuys years ago, good stuff with excellent results up

IMO I would call FTI and this is from a guy who was 1000% an ATI guy. I have not had ANY luck with them the couple years, missing three converters by a ton and my ex$pen$ive glide broke in three passes. Since switching to FTI they have NAILED all 4 converters first shot and our glide in the dragster never gave us one issue with well over 500 passes on it.
Both transmissions are aftermarket cases, one obviously an ATI the other A Reid. Reid can be recerted in Cali ATI has to go back to Pennsylvania. Just something else to consider.

Hey Cab, I 100% 2nd FTI! I have bought 2 converters from them in the last year and they have been over the top helpful. If I needed a new glide I would order from them in a heartbeat!

Marco Abruzzi for tranny and converter is a great place for one stop shopping. I have one of his glides and a UCC converter which is an excellent product also. ATI would not be my first choice.

I also have not had the best customer service from ATI, my conv started to sound like a super changer, within 6 months and its sits behind a 273, sent it back, they said nothing wrong, but since it was open may as well rebuild it, and changed me.

Well, my experiences with ATI were fine, but it's been a while. No one's perfect, and I haven't heard of a lot of issues, but I will pay attention.

Same here, but I've never done any business with them. The mixed reviews I'm seeing on this thread aren't exactly boosting my confidence level, either.

I don't have any bad business experience with ATI...just to clarify. I have bought a new converter from them and other miscellaneous stuff.

I'm just saying with a blank canvas FTI would be my first choice these days...

I'm now convince to go with them up
I called and talk to one of their reps and my customer seems to be okay with that choice, thanks to all for the help up
