Change out all of the one gauges for aftermarket??

I'm in process of rewiring my 68 barracuda,
I would like to reuse the original gauge set (as well as add a performance gauges). It is a pet peeve of mine to have inoperable gauges in the dash.

Has anyone done this with an aftermarket harness???

I am using an American autowire universal harness.

Looking for a little help on how to do this.

a FSM will be a valuable tool to see how the circuits are wired. [or use the site [alpar maybe ?] that hosts wiring diagrams.]
the amp gauge should be ditched, but you may be able to change that up to a volt gauge conversion in the factory amp gauge location.
the oil, water, and gas gauge need a 5v signal, so keep the can you have now that converts 12v to 5, or get a new, electronic one.
just make up a mini harness [if needed] for your original gauges, and attach that to an accessory point on your universal harness.
sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is.

I would never re-use the OEM gauges as many of the stuff can be in accurate or tough to read or short out and cause a fire.....

Which is why I like wht these guys offer...

You can send your original dash to someone like Redline Gauge if you need to have it repaired. Redline can also customize the factory dash panel to change the ammeter to a voltmeter and stuff like that.

For the money I'm going to ditch the factory stuff and go with a Holley EFI dash. They are able to work in a stand alone mode. After fighting with four plus cars at a time worth of Mopar gauges for 20+ years has me a little downtrodden from removing the clusters so many times. If it's not a bouncy speedo it's a dead fuel gauge. I've had factory 5v regulators outlast the solid state models that come in the new style circuit boards too. Very irritating as you usually have to drop the steering column to work on it. Don't even get me started on the electroluminescent problems in (especially) my '66 Chargers. The harder the car is driven the more problems I have had. I could be unlucky, that's for sure!

Here's what I did to my '69. Good ideas from others in the thread, too.

I can't believe this was over 10 years ago! I seriously need to drag the Barracuda out of the corner of the garage and finish it...

Racecar or street car? Racecar I removed the factory gauges. Replaced them with in dash aftermarket. Used 1/8"aluminum plate in place of the stock cluster. Stock bezel screed to the plate.

I did something similar with my 68, except the tach and speedo fit in from the backside.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
