just pulled the aluminum LPW cover off my d-60 to check things over and cannot remember how much oil I need to put back in ,this cover has no sight plug for the correct level just a drain plug and a fill plug up at the top, I have 2 1/2 quart in it so far, how much are you drag racers running in your's?

Drag only? 2 quarts, if that. The Mopar engineers that use to put on the drag seminars always recommended 1 quart gear oil max in both Dana 60 and 8 3/4 as already stated, that was for a drag only car. I would run around 2 quarts on a street car just to be safe

This cover was bought as a Jeg's house brand, no level plug in it, maybe that is why it was less expensive than the LPW unit altho it had the Ultimate 60 cast into the center outer cast in bracing and bearing cap tensioner bolts, adding another 1/2 quart would not bother me.

I think the consensus was they weren't that good for the street, by the looks of how mine is doing they seem to be ok for drag racing as mine has been on since I built the dana 14 years ago,,,same pro gears and bearings

I have had an LPW cover on mu Camaro's dana since 2001, It is a street car that sees the racetrack once in awhile. Not one issue with the gearset or bearings at all.

I would run around 2 quarts on a street car just to be safe Because they had shelves full of spare parts and we're competing in stock/super stock. Gear life wasn't a priority. Whatever the service manual says is what I follow. I've never lost a race because my rear end fluid was slowing me down.
