Anyone have any street/strip experience with this particular lobe family?

The Crane 420 lobe is very popular with the local circle track engine builder that I work with. He uses that on a lot of dirt track engines. That lobe makes good power and the valve trains typically last for the life of the engine. These are race engines though so they have high quality parts. Jesel rocker arms, race quality valve springs, Ti valves, etc.

If I'm comparing specs correctly they appear smaller at .200 than Comp Xtreme Street rollers (solids), for a given @ .050. With that they appear a little slower off the base circle which is encouraging.

I don't know how well you can compare cam lobes if you only have two or three points of data but if you don't have a CamDoctor and a Spintron in your back pocket you have to do what you can.

The CamDoctor isn't super expensive. Always wanted to buy one just for fun. I think it would be interesting to spin all the cams I had on a CamDoctor and overlay the curves. I'm guessing I'd learn something.

It seems exactly what I'd want, or darn close.
Tried and true (yes older) lobe, not known to beat up parts.
Made an offer on it, will see how it goes.

I use 420 lobes on turbo cams I spec for customers. Comp has similar offerings

Thanks. Bought it. I have heard the crane is a tried and true lobe.
I have the Comp 420 in my current wedge engine, which sent me down this path for the new motor. Should be interesting to see how it works out.

Which Comp 420? What happened?

Hi B, didn't mean to mislead. In the current 451 I have a a PRH-specified Comp cams high tech 420 lobe. A Zippy Performance custom grind LOL.

What happened was, I started collecting hemi parts quite a few years ago and it's getting close enough to where I'm going to push it.

The cam Dwayne spec'd for me for the wedge taught me alot about what works for the way I use my pile. So when I came across something pretty similar (in terms of big picture longevity/maintenance)ground for a hemi, with quite a bit more duration given this next motor will be 121CI bigger than the last one, I thought I should try it. Plus, the price was right.

I consulted with the same expert as before, he was a straight shooter as always and we agreed it this Custom Crane/readily available is close enough for rock-n-roll and to get it up and running. All the specs are within about 2 degrees of what I wanted to order anyway so finding it was a stroke of luck.
