Working on a 1966 727. Normal front clutch clearance is 0.120+. Added an extra steel and now clearance is 0.053". That seems on the tight side, but when looking up the pre-1971 specs seems to be OK? Currently has the 0.060" snap ring. Tried a thick Snap ring, but the drum is not machined to fit a snap ring over about 0.080"
Anyhow, in these early year 727s is the tighter clearance OK, or should I remove the extra steel, and just use some of the thicker 0.086" steels?

Stock rebuild that you want to have OE performance and driveability is different from a performance/race unit. Have to build it for the intended use.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.
