my garage has 9 pairs of 8 foot long T12 florescents that I am going to convert to LED. My garage is 10 foot tall, and I have to run up and down the ladder so I only got one pair done.

I bought these from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IIWJFZC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ordered these because they had FAIR reviews and they were available open box for $100 less. Only 1 seemed damaged but it worked.

First impressions on the swap are that the original GE lights tombstones are fragile, I broke 1 out the 4 by trying to remove the original wires when removing the ballast during the rewire to remove the ballasts. I got a replacement from Lowes for $5 and it was quick to replace. The light are very bright but they are more like a spot light. I think if I was to do it over, I would get the frosted so they would be more like the florescent and spread the light around.

I changed over a total of 40 8-footers and 10 4-footers. Made the mistake of buying the cheaper 8-footers from E-bay, about 20% of them flicker from time-to-time as half of the tube goes dead. The pins at the ends of the LED tubes are shorter than the fluorescents so I had to stuff aluminum foil in some of the sockets to make proper contact.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the improvement in lighting; I went with the 4500K tubes.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but its getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

4500K is the color of the light, not the number of lights he has.

i went with 5000K on my conversion, but i used 12, 2-tubers in the 4-tubers white, reflective, tin work. shop is 24x30.

it is a LITTLE on the bright side. biggrin and i like it. my old, tired eyes [or is it tired old eyes ?] can finally see a little better.
in my 14x32 addition, i'm going to do the same quantity.

I was thinking of the 40 lights..I only have 18 to change but if I left the lights on when they were all working I think my power bill went up about $3 per day

All 40 are never on at the same time, usually no more than 12 at a time plus they're in 3 different buildings.

Because of this thread, I decided to join in and upgrade some of my garage lights as well.

4-pack of 4' 4000K Daylight Glow
4-pack of 4' 5000K Crystal White Glow

Thought I would see which I liked better before buying more. Should be here tomorrow.

Curious how well they fire up on a cold midwestern winter day.

Thanks for helping me spend $90, guys. wave beer

as i did my conversion this summer using hyperkon units, the coldest day i have been able to test them has been 18* outside, with a 29* inside the garage temp. i put up new garage doors this summer as well, and they seal a ton better now, but my ceiling still does not have any insulation.

i do know they come on INSTANTLY at FULL brightness, opposed to the fluorescent tubes.
by the way, i had four tube fluorescent fixtures, and now only two tube LEDS. the brightness with only 1/2 the tubes, is at LEAST almost triple over the florescent ones.

LED? They shouldn't care about the temp. They should be instant on.

Mine are in,
and the Lord said, "Let there be light! and it was LED"\

Its like daylight in the garage! I had one that didnt work though, I am not sure how Amazon will return only 1 bulb out of a set of 4...and I still need 2 more and to rewire one fixture and remove the ballast. Tim

I put some LED fixtures in my garage lately to replace the two 60w bulbs I had been using. Paperwork says they are good to -40°. Which, in a funny coincidence of math and science, is the same temperature F or C.

I figure at anything near -40° I won't be worrying about my lights coming on.

Not knowing how much brighter they were it seems overlit when replacing the old and putting the new in the same location!

Everything in my house has been switched to LED lights. Made a difference in the electric bill.

my barn when I acquired it was wired with (10) 60 watt light bulbs... for a 30x40 space... ive been changing them over a couple a month to 18,000 lumen LED 5000K integrated fixtures. talk about making daylight. I have a few left to do.

was kind of nice doing a head gasket on my cummins without auxiliary lights.

Then it was those yellow halogen floor lights that burned out if you touched the hard bulb, now we have single led 's that can blind you
