A few questions:
1) What is the condition of the wheel lip on that
damaged quarter panel - is it rusted?
show pictures...
2) can you show a picture of the door jam
3) also show a picture of the door closed
I want to see how the door lays vs. quarter panel/ rocker panel etc...
4) Is there rust on the bottom of this quarter
in front of the wheel well to the rocker panel
and /or behind the wheel well to the tailpanel?
Recommendation:
(Condition 1)
IF and I mean IF and ONLY IF there is not
structural damage (I.e frame bent don't rule this
out yet!)
AND
(Condition 2)
IF AND ONLY IF the lower portion of the quarter panel from door jam all the way back
including all of the wheel well lip IS NOT RUSTED OUT
I would recommend repairing it.
That piece is repairable... IMHO..
providing both condition above are absolutely TRUE.
Otherwise if condition 1 is not true,
your going to have to put that car on a frame
machine and pull it anyway...
if condition 2 is true... it's not worth it
to repair it UNLESS you simply can't find another
donor car.. Which I believe you! is difficult
but not totally impossible...
You really can't determine condition 1 without
seeing how the door lays( all the stuff should be in the door (ie. weight) when the door is closed.
and you should also check how the glass rolls up and down and seats... Obviously you have the car disassembled so this is hard to assess...
How did the car get damaged?
No I'm not indicting you!
bodyshops will want to do what happended so they can "reverse the damage" ...
ONE MAJOR NOTE:
IF the frame is bent. Your chances of getting ANY body shop to straighten a 65 mopar are slim to NONE! (If you find one you are a lucky man! )
But If the frame is bent I would say
Don't fool with it...
save every other piece (INCLUDING The passenger side quarter panel if its still good) and save it all for another project car (same year/model etc)...
DO NOT ASSUME your frame is NOT BENT!
DO NOT REMOVE A QUARTER PANEL ON A CAR WITH A BENT FRAME...(or any other structural sheet metal)
You'll never get the new one back on right!
BEST OF LUCK either way to you...
