Will a 187 big block pan work with a big block in an E-Body car? It’s originally a 67-70 C-Body big block pan

I see a lot of references that the 187 pan works in an A-Body but no mention of it in an E-Body?

e-bodies used the "402" pan for 383s & the "HEMI" pan for 440/440+6/HEMI

I think any big-block pan will fit in a '66-'70 B or '70-'74 E-body

the idler arm clearance of the C-body pan is necessary for the same in a big block A-body - it has been talked about due to the rarity of the "893" factory big-block A-body pan (now reproduced)

Great summary. Now that you showed the photos, I remember using the 1970 6 quart Hemi/440-6 pan which came on 1970 B and E-Body cars on my 69 A12 to get a little extra capacity but still look stock. Thanks for going to the trouble to show all the photos.

most c body pans run on a 68-70 b body will have the drag link rubbing the pan, the c body pan is deeper [thicker] in that area of the pan.

Whaaaat? The above statement is false. I have run 187 pans in b-bodies and they don't hit the drag link, ever. And a 66-70 b-body engine to K frame and suspension is the same dimensions.

Yes a 187 pan is thicker than a 402 pan. But a 66-69 hemi pan is thicker than a 402 also. They don't rub the drag link. They fit the car and dont hit anything.

I've seen the 187 pan rub on 1965 B bodies, also on the 1966 and up B bodies shruggy
Me thinks it depends on how old the motor and trans mounts are and the individual cars shruggy

you can say what you want to, I have seen it with my own eyes, more than once, & on different cars. but thats ok, ask Hemi68charger about his Daytona with a c body pan when it had a 440 in it,my own 68 Charger had the same problem.

Thanks all for the input. I am not worried about it in a B-Body. I was asking if it’s OK to use it in an E-Body. Looks like it will be fine. On a side note, I really like the baffles in it.

I've had C body pans rub the center links in both B and E bodies.

Here is what it looks like 67 b-Body 426 with hemi pan. Measurement from bottom of block to the drag link 2 5/8" you can't get a pencil between the pan and drag link. If the idler arm is good the the drag link does not move up and down just side to side.

A 187 pan is 2 7/16" in this area.

So I don't know what was wrong with your b-body that a 187 pan that hit the drag link, but there was a problem someplace. I had one and drove it for years.
