I see the rapid transit Cuda, the Road Runner and the Duster. I never knew the Rapid Transit Duster was red though, always thought it was green. It had to be 1970 as the Duster was red and painted green for 1971.

Yes it is the Duster and it had 3 paint schemes, bronze, red, and green. Saw a lot of pictures at MCACN about the RTS. The Hemi on the stand in the picture above was also at the MCACN display.

You sure the Duster was three colors?
I've only read red and green, unless you mean it was FK5 or something like that new. Not sure the paint code, but it could be FK5. I saw pictures of all three colors at the MCACN show.

Do you think it was the red car in a faded photo?

Do you think it was the red car in a faded photo? Nope, I heard from someone who knows what the car started out as and what it became. The photo's didn't come into play until after this discussion...

I was a 14 year old kid in 1970, imagine what that stuff did to me!
The guy that owned our local Chrysler/Plymouth dealership was kind of a renegade, old Richard Ihm didn't really care what Chrysler wanted. He had money and ran his dealership any way he wanted. He would go to Chrysler, pick out which cars he wanted, and wrote them a check for a truck load at a time. All of the cars on the lot at Ihm Motor Sales were paid for and were Richard's to do with as he pleased.
In my later years, if a guy got along with Richard, a guy could get a pretty good deal, and he would treat the guy well. If a guy didn't like Richard, he was pretty much screwed. Gene

Too bad Juliano never got the 'Cuda. As I recall he said he knew where it was but the owners would not let it go. Very True. Steven and I chatted about the RTS Cuda many a time. He knew where it was but the owner who is probably elderly at this point (or deceased) would not sell for any amount of money. According to SJ, he said that the owner was a holocaust survivor and he felt since he had no control over what the nazis took from him that he had control over the fate of the RTS Cuda. SJ made crazy offers to him including a generous offer to buy houses for all the owners kids + $$. Still no sale. I knew it ate at him over the years that he could not get it. He even had tons of what he called "trick" parts aka "lunch pail" stuff waiting for it. That meant it was going to get the Steven Juliano treatment (an over the top resto). If anyone else has more info to add to the story or any corrections to make please let me know.

You are correct Chris, there's a little more to that story, but it would stir up some chit so I'll leave it alone, Steven had a few parts off the car, last I talked to him he was trying to negotiate for the hood, so he could DNA the paint layout/colors/etc, Steve said the car was too far gone (rust wise) Steve's intention was ultimately to build a clone using what RTS/Chuck Miller made parts he could negotiate off the original car as that was the only way the car would be "saved" Mike

car is in excellent original condition (hood included), original paint, not needing a resto, just like A34plymouth said, the seller wasnt selling no matter what. Steve spread some "misinformation" throughout the years so others wouldnt want to contact the owner.
we both would call the owner who would never answer the phone. i got his name and contact info, but it doesnt matter.
yes he has an agreement with the owners son, but the owner was such a unhappy guy, that the son doesnt have any relationship with him. and, the as of 111 or 12 years ago the owners 90 something year old mother was still alive. so, this guy may have it locked up in his garage for years to come, lol

I agree Steven was a master with the 'misinformation' concept when need be. Steven once told, what he referred to as' an outsider'who thought he was on the track to locating the car, and then likely hold the info for ransom,... that the car was in fact in Ontario near the US border when in fact it is Michigan....or is it..... Hope he is smiling from the beyond

I think dealers are missing an opportunity with us vintage ride Gearheads.
Here we are with attention getting old muscle and we litterally pay to show it off at car shows. We would happily attend dealer events where our rides can be used to attract people to come look....for free.
Yet few dealers stage these events.
I know if I owned a dealership I would have AT LEAST one event per year! I believe you're absolutely right. I think they are poor marketers for the most part. I think so many are owned by the children or grandchildren now of the original owners, and have no business sense. If they did, they'd run their businesses very differently. They'd realize word of mouth was so important, and not just look for that sale, then treat the customer like crap afterward. So many little things they can do differently that would create good word of mouth advertisement. And Service Departments, horrible! I believe they are satisfied with their revenue from one time sales and recall work, and don't ever realize the potential revenue never realized.
Facts are stubborn things.

bigdad, do you know what the "class is in" pic is from? So cool seeing a bunch of kids glued to car stuff. I wonder if you could find a group of kids nowadays interested in anything other than video games Great old pics on this thread!

If we see only things like the RTS cars, it is great.
At the same time we had rivers on fire, air in urban areas was awful, there were large protests throughout the country, there were huge divisions throughout the country concerning Vietnam.
1968 had the moon orbit, but it was a disaster of a year for so many people and the world.
In 1970 the USA was much more rural centric, though much, much less than the 1910's.
If you got cancer or had a heart attack outcomes were a lot worse than today. Way less obesity than we have today. Grandparents being 65 was a milestone, and they were very old. Opportunities for travel generally involved car travel for most travel. Many parts of the interstate highway system were still not complete. Minorities had more limited opportunities. Houses were affordable.
I love the cars from the 1960's and early 1970's. Everything about them, the marketing and the dealer items, was so much fun to see. You knew then the new car body styles came out, and styling was apparent even year to year. Ads were not on line like today, so you got tangible things to take home.
It was such an interesting time to be a kid in, because you were somewhat insulated from the bad. Public schools had Drivers Training classes.
We had Peter Max folders to put our papers in that we went to school with,

bigdad, do you know what the "class is in" pic is from? So cool seeing a bunch of kids glued to car stuff. I wonder if you could find a group of kids nowadays interested in anything other than video games Great old pics on this thread! Yes, that's Brookings ,SD .. Might could scratch up a couple more pictures from Dick Landy's visit if I dig around some more

Right now, I don't know if this country will ever get back to good times. Jeeez , you must be a real joy to be stuck at home with .. Cheer up !, it will be better soon I do have a tendency to live in the past, but I'm not a "downer." However, with this current crisis going & the toxic political environment of the past 10+ years, I'm getting tired of all the division & attacks politically. People are becoming more & more divided every day - much of the happiness in society has diminished vs. 20 years ago. If I had a time machine, I'd go back to the summer of '76. Man, was that a great year for me. My first car, GF, etc. It was magic. Here's a pic to prove it.

We had Peter Max folders to put our papers in that we went to school with, Exactly. Good old days weren't always as good as our memories make them out to be. However, we all have the luxury of hindsight. Kids today don't. They make the world work as they see it, and I guarantee that doesn't align with our view in most cases. I'm also willing to bet our Great Grandparents said the same thing about our Grandparents during thier time on earth.

Parts Manager plaque. It has the dated coins for 1968 and 1969. Missing 1970, 1971, and 1972. The pencil/paperclip holder is from May 1969. Los Angeles Parts Depot Official Opening. I'm trying to keep this all RTS, but the graphics are so cool and it goes with the plaque.

So the News on the streets these days are that the RTS Cuda has been uncovered from the storage unit it has been sitting in for years and the man that owned it has passed. Word is that something related to the cars discovery will be coming soon but for now it is all hush hush. There is a picture of the car being loaded on a flat bed in Michigan but people are going to a lot of trouble to keep the picture off the World Wide Web . . . Supposedly the photo was on a phone that was stolen from the Detroit Autorama and then hit the web a few days later. Too much drama for me but certainly look forward to seeing the car.

All your info is wrong but the last part. It is I who took the picture and it was stolen from my friends phone at Autorama. I'm the one keeping it off the internet the best I can. So you and the auto archeological are one and the same? So please what is the big deal with a picture? For all we know, that picture could of been taken in 1971? Sounds like this could be a great story, what is the hold up? If the car is still in Michigan, can I come see it? Help if I can . .

Yes, it is I, the Auto Archaeologist... or at least that is what I call myself. Well I took the picture, it wasn't taken in 71. It is a great story, and a friend had his phone stolen for it at Autorama in Detroit for it. Like, legit stolen while he was in the bathroom. We all signed NDAs we can't talk about it right now, but more info will be coming out in the near future.

As you may know, I’m an admin on cuda-challenger and E-Bodies.org. Certainly when the time comes, hope you can share the story with the members of the forums. Always wondered where that car was and then to find out it was possibly close to me here in Detroit. Wow

congrats to the new owners, if it helps i believe tony fridecki was the rts cudas owners name, the car was so original that the original paint still showed marks on top of the 1/4 panels from the straps use when it was being transported, yep, they actually held down the car by puttin a strap across the top of the trunk area, and on the corners of the tops of the 1/4 panels where the strap made contact it left marks in the paint, i hope the car is restored, it was good enough as it was and can only be original once, i used to have his address and phone # but cant find it at the moment
value on those cras are tough to figure, i was suprised at how low the other 3 RTS cars sold for at mecum a few years ago with the buyers premium the 71 road runner $236k, the 70 HEMI road runner $341k + $264k for the duster so is a 6-pak cuda worth more then a 70 Hemi road runner?
btw, out of the 3 that sold only the 71 road runner was unrestored, the other 2 Steve restored to a level that will never be parrelled

I know it wasnt part of RTS but the only show car from that time that would be valued in the millions would be the Diamante. In my humble opinion.Steve and I talked about years ago at Chryslers at Carlisle some one offered him 800,0000 I told him it was worth over a million.

I was at Carlisle talking to Steven J. when he was approached by a gentleman holding a check for $800K, saying "final offer" but that was for a package deal, the Diamante and the 71 HEMI Challenger R/T sunroof both on display that day in the T building....IIRC the Diamante sold supposedly for 2 mil and went to NJ

So the News on the streets these days are that the RTS Cuda has been uncovered from the storage unit it has been sitting in for years and the man that owned it has passed. Word is that something related to the cars discovery will be coming soon but for now it is all hush hush. There is a picture of the car being loaded on a flat bed in Michigan but people are going to a lot of trouble to keep the picture off the World Wide Web . . . Word is it's being hyped up on the net/www for it's "unveiling" in April..... I would tend to think MCG? or whomever Indiana Jones writes for..... word is the new owner is going along with the peekaboo game, can't blame 'em, but some of the cryanin internet games are childish....

You have to appreciate their imaginations.
So far every single thing said about the car and me has been complete BS. They are just upset cause the lawyers keep getting the stuff taken off of Facebook.
Actually there's quite a lot on various FB forums..... only "legal" mention was some bogus "Email" to one Admin. from facebook filled with bad grammar and misspellings...... Only complaints to Administration/FB is from some guy named R.Brutt....Hmmmmm?

Oh and I did pass the info onto the lawyers, that's what I was instructed to do. They took it from there. Everything else posted about the car is completely fabricated. You want to believe the fake info, by all means. No skin off my nose.

Sources are checking... Why did you sign a NDA if this is all a lie? A non-disclosure agreement (NDA), also known as a confidentiality agreement (CA), confidential disclosure agreement (CDA), proprietary information agreement (PIA), secrecy agreement (SA), or non-disparagement agreement, is a legal contract or part of a contract between at least two parties that outlines confidential material, knowledge, or information that the parties wish to share with one another for certain purposes, but wish to restrict access to. Doctor–patient confidentiality (physician–patient privilege), attorney–client privilege, priest–penitent privilege and bank–client confidentiality agreements are examples of NDAs, which are often not enshrined in a written contract between the parties. It is a contract through which the parties agree not to disclose any information covered by the agreement. An NDA creates a confidential relationship between the parties, typically to protect any type of confidential and proprietary information or trade secrets. As such, an NDA protects non-public business information. Like all contracts, they cannot be enforced if the contracted activities are illegal. NDAs are commonly signed when two companies, individuals, or other entities (such as partnerships, societies, etc.) are considering doing business and need to understand the processes used in each other's business for the purpose of evaluating the potential business relationship. NDAs can be "mutual", meaning both parties are restricted in their use of the materials provided, or they can restrict the use of material by a single party. An employee can be required to sign an NDA or NDA-like agreement with an employer, protecting trade secrets. In fact, some employment agreements include a clause restricting employees' use and dissemination of company-owned confidential information. In legal disputes resolved by settlement, the parties often sign a confidentiality agreement relating to the terms of the settlement.[1][2] Examples of this agreement are The Dolby Trademark Agreement with Dolby Laboratories, the Windows Insider Agreement, and the Halo CFP (Community Feedback Program) with Microsoft.

1970 Tune-Up Brochures. Dodge had similar ones but the cover graphics were not as good.

Not sure why they are posting sideways but lol.... This patch is from the 1971 dealer catalog, it's the only one I have ever seen, the sun catcher has an interesting story. It was an ebay find and was used at Chryslers at Carlisle in the showroom display at one of the A body anniversary years and fell breaking off a corner.

1970 Plymouth Trouble Shooting National Finalist jacket. A lot of the jackets from the period just had rubber bands sewn in at the bottom of the sleeves. When the rubber bands break or crack that's it. I don't know how to replace them.
1970 NOS RTS jacket came in the original bag. These came lined and just a nylon shell. I have seen 3 different left side patches. This one which is in the ad. A second one that resembles the patch in the 1990's reproductions, Plus an oval patch one.
1972 NOS Wet look lined jacket in the original bag. I am not sure when they first came out. However, they were advertised in the May 1972 Plymouth Traveler Magazine, so it makes it as RTS Based on my research of the factory backed drag/NASCAR/Trans-Am drivers, I believe the RTS jacket you are showing is from 1970 and one with the patch that was replicated in the 1990’s is from 1971. I’ve never seen the oval style patch.

At Steven Juliano's Mecum sale, There was a 1970 style round patch RTS jacket on day 2 item #309. I believe it the same style jacket that I have and I show in the attached 1970 literature above. Steven's had some other patches sewn on it so I wouldn't call it NOS. In 1970 plenty of people sewed so it was easy enough to to get a mom, girlfriend, or wife to add something on a jacket. My jacket, the literature I attached, and Steven's jacket have the same collar, pinstriping, and arm cuffs.
At Steven's sale on Day 2 item # 307 his estate sold a 1971 RTS Jacket. I don't recall having seen literature advertising this jacket, but I may have seen it somewhere. So I'm calling it a 1971 jacket purely for organizational purposes. I believe this style patch is shown being worn by one of the male models behind a 1971 Road Runner or GTX in the 1971 Satellite dealer literature brochure or the 1971 full line literature brochure. The 1971 jacket from Steven had the collar, pinstriping, and arm cuffs to match the 1970 RTS Jacket. I think it is easy enough to document this style of jacket. The RTS patch on this jacket resembles the patch used on the 1990's reproduction jackets. If I recall. the 1990 reproduction jackets also had a heart patch and a stripe motif.
Finally at Steven's sale on day 4 item #343 they sold a jacket with an oval RTS patch. This jacket had a collar, pinstriping, and arm cuffs to match the 2 jackets above. I have never seen this elsewhere. Jackets of this period were sold by the Plymouth dealers, at speed shops, and probably at other stores. I think one would want to look at the tag at the back of the collar for more information. I've never seen one of these jackets up close so my knowledge is limited.
Back in the 1970's oval RTS patches were available at car shows for probably a quarter. I have a couple that I got then. I've seen a couple of different proportion oval RTS patches over the years.
This past year I even saw a 1970 round RTS Jacket patch and I have no idea of where it came from.
Today I think you need a little more careful because there are old jackets that contemporary people sew patches on to resemble old jackets.
