The Holley Street Dominator will get you more hood clearance if that's an issue. It runs basically the same as the Performer RPM even though it's a single plane. Very good manifold.

It was more of an observation, but if that’s what you needed........I’m sure a factory 12” converter could be made to live behind a motor like that.

I’m also confident an 11” could be tightened up enough to stall below 4200.

X2! This is the intake I run and I have room for 1/2" spacer and a nitrous plate and it still fits under my stock hood with a drop base air filter.

Stock Street Dominator is good but ported is better!

Well, I am doing basically the same thing as Dave, our builds are very close, and I am running my old tried and true 6 Pac setup. It has always worked very well on the street. I am running a Dynamic tight 10" convertor 373 Dana and will be installing a Gearvendors unit. If I were running a single four 4150 style, I would also go with the Holley SD, great manifold and properly ported is even better!

I spoke to several converter guys about this. I have a couple of 12" converters here for cores. Apparently, there are no internals available for them for this kind of build.

And they said the 11" are hard to find and expensive because some of the racers scoop them up when they come up. So we're basically stuck using the too small 10" stuff because there are cores and internals readily available for them.

I am just reciting what the converter builders have told me.

As to the intake, I have a Street Dominator. Good intake. But I converted it to Dominator flange years ago and it looks like it would be a chore to shrink back down to 4150.

So it looks like the RPM is the first choice for many here. Followed by the Indy dual plane and then the Holley.

Probably all good intakes that will do the job AND fit under the hood with a 4150 and maybe a drop base air cleaner.

440 2D gets my vote. It will be the same height as the RPM, and will make more power. The SD will match the 440 2D in power, but despite the 500+ in motor, the single plane SD is softer below 3500.

I have 1900 stall and a 3.23 in a 4150 lb car with the 440 2D.

I shift 6300-6500 rpm, FWIW

Ok, dumb question. There are adaptors available to adapt Dommies to 4150 intake, can you just flip the adapter over? What are you calling 11"? The 10-3/4 RR/Hemi converter or a different core? If it is the mopar, I have a spare 10-3/4 core.

In my case, the adapter wouldn't let it all fit under the hood.

Call any of the Mopar oriented converter guys and they can give you the skinny on your converter. I think that it is one I would have loved to have had as a core this last go-around.

Mopar made many different version of both the 12 and 11 inch "stock OEM" converters, including the highest stall 11 inch 1970 383 2 barrel motor in the C bodies to street hemi and on the 12 inch motorhomes from low stall 35 Ft Class A chassis to the 1968 and up 318 class B chassis converters shruggy
I had a SS/AH race Hemi T/A 8 inch converter in my old pump gas Duster that worked absolutely excellent on the street up
it was tight at light throttle in town driving and would stall around 5200 RPM at the track in low gear on the hit boogie That was a really good converter for me devil

I run the Indy 2d dual plane intake on my 493. It just fits under the hood of my 63 as it has about 1/4 of room between the carb stud and the hood. I like that intake for the street on my car. I have never tried a single plane as I think the MP 337 may be the only single plane other then the Holley Street Dominator that will fit under my hood. But I have been very happy with the Indy 2d intake on my car. Ron

Thank you, Lee. I would have liked to have had that core last year when I went through my last converter change.

But I am done with pulling the thing apart......at least I hope I am. I have had the engine and tranny back out twice dealing with this converter issue. It is much better now. To the point that I can live with it.

Cab,
I am at the point now where the vast majority of the car's time is spent cruising and just driving around. And I like my street cars crisp down low. All of the converters worked okay, they were just too soft (mushy) down low for my liking. What little track time I do, 4,000+ flash gets the car into the 1.5s 60ft. Not too bad for a street car. Plus, I don't tear up as many parts as I would with more flash.

Lenny at Ultimate took the time to discuss what I wanted and recommended changes to my car. Then took my PTC converter and made some changes to it. PTC, who built the converter and tried a second time to tighten it up, said there was nothing more they could do.

For less than $300 total, including shipping, Lenny made a real difference. Much tighter, crisper, and more responsive down low.

up Thank you Lenny at Ultimate!

In light of the 10” converter, I think either the RPM, Holley SD, or an M1 single plane would work just fine.

The RPM would be a bit sharper on the bottom, the single planes should be a bit better up high.

I wouldn’t expect big differences between any of them though.

I’d top it off with a 1.45 x 1.75 4150 carb.

I’m sure a spacer would be worth something, and in that regard the Holley is the lowest, so it would have the most available room to use a spacer on.

I agree with that. But just out of curiosity, why did you leave the Indy off your list?

Like I said before, I have a Holley intake now, and I have always had good luck with them, although I have never heard much about them from other guys. But I cut this one for a Dominator years ago. I will pull it out and see just how hard it would be to shrink back to 4150 dimensions.

The only reason I left the Indy 440-2D off the list was I don’t know that I feel it’s better enough to justify the added cost over the other 3 when used with std port heads.
