What type of alternator are you using, race or street car? 440 right? I had a 440 with Indy heads and a CSR water pump and using a Powermater alternator I was able to fabricate a low mount using an adjustable heim joint to brace and adjust the belt tension on the lower part of the alternator,I used a stud in one of the mounting holes for the timing cover near the balancer as the mounting point. I also used the tapped holes in the front of the cylinder head to support the top mount of the alternator and supported that with another adjustable double sided heim joint.

I do not have a picture of the lower mount on anything here in Iraq, but I do have this engine shot that gives you an ideal on what I did. Hope this helps

Here is one way to do it. This is a bracket that fits behind the water pump and extends out to hold a racing alternator.

I use this low mount one from Mancini for a big block. Mounts off the timing cover.

Thats what I used, worked fine.
Looks nice and easy to work on the motor with it down out of the way!

Andy,
How many amps is that racing alt.?

I'm guessing it's for race only and
not enough amps for a street/strip car.

Snap your neck, mega G-force launch, is all I want!

That small alternator is 55 amps. Works fine on a street/strip car as long as you don't go crazy with the electronics. Lots of production cars came with less than 55 amps.

Andy, you are like the Batman of the Mopar world, where DO you get all of those cool toys?

With just a few tweaks it looks like you could fit a bigger alternator in there...
