Who sells the thick grease that is used on the torsion bar end. Does mopar still sell it? if not what brand to use?

The original stuff was long-strand fibrous grease but grease has come a long way so I'd use a synthetic like Green Grease.

Use whatever grease you have on hand. Not a critical (special need) area, as far as I can tell.

I agree, any grease or grease like substance should work. I doubt there are any torsion bar cars that get driven a lot of miles in bad weather anymore so the grease probably isn't even a requirement. I have only a very thin film of high pressure grease on the bars in my Coronet. I pull the bars out at least once a year for some reason or another and I don't drive the car more than 1000 miles a year so the grease hardly even knows it has a job to do.

I would have preferred the original type grease. Amalie has a #4 grease that seems to be close to what I wanted but I don`t want to pay $45 plus for a small tub of it and not need it again. I really just want something that doesn`t leak and drip oils like some grease does. It is for a transverse torsion bar which seems to use some more grease then the older straight t bars.

Is it a daily driver or just a fair weather cruiser? If it is a daily driver then I'd pack it full of a long fiber chassis grease which you can buy at any parts store. A fair weather cruiser that only gets driven a few times a year I'd just use a light coating of heavy grease.

Look for "high impact" grease

I use 100,000 mile grease, or whatever is open on the shelf that is visible. laugh2

You will not live long enough to outlast it.

Seems like all modern greases have a high bleed out rate (drip, drip, drip) I've yet to find one that doesn't

I have a 30 year old can of Lubriplate 930 that doesn't bleed out as much as most so that's what I use when I'm concerned about dripping. It's not lithium base so I only use where I won't be mixing greases.

You might check with a local industrial bearing supplier for recommendations.

Seems like 5th wheel trailer plate grease would work too?

So what do you guys think the real purpose(s) the grease serves here on TB's?

I would think rust/keeping water splash out/as said noise/a side bennie- ease of removal (if ever needed). With em normally being in there for life I would think Ma's main thought was "noise" as minimizing customer complaints (to the dealership) might not be #1 but it is for sure close to it.

Keeps them from rusting tight and snapping. The bar moves back and forth a little bit during use so if the bars rusted solid then they probably snap. It is a harsh environment for a daily driver. Especially a car in the midwest with salted roads.

Early torsion bar equipped cars regularly broke torsion bars - they went in dry on the assembly line.

The fix was grease.

Was common to see the early ‘57’s dragging the front on one or both sides of the car.
My dad bought one and limped it home, fixed it and he drive it for a couple years without a problem - except the rust starting over the headlight “eye brows”.
