Just finished up the year using Hoosier stiff sidewall slicks(29.5/11.5/15W) for the first time. Have been using Goodyear 31/14/15 for years. Car is heavy (3550)with trans brake and the Goodyears would work great(1.29 best 60 ft.) for about 20 passes and be junk. Pretty frustrating and expensive! Nobody makes my size in stiff sidewalls!!!

Thanks from some help last winter from Moparts(especially trendz and DVW) I discovered that the odd "W" size slicks could possibly fit the bill. Turns out that the Hoosier 29.5/11.5/15W(stiff sidewall) is very close to the Goodyear 31.14/15. It is actually 13.5 inches wide and 30.6 inches tall.
Boy am I happy. Only had 71 passes 0n car this year due to rain outs but almost all were in the low 1.30's and some 1.28- 1.29's last one of the year was 1.30,All on a 8-3/4 stock rear (just kidding). Very consistent and allowed me to get 7 wins this year! Wish I had discovered this years ago. Not only did they last longer(and STILL going) but are $100 cheaper to replace.

Thanks for the help Moparts!!!

Mike

How wide of a wheel do you run these on? Better results and less $$$'s equals a win/win, so your total's go up by two!

Good to hear! I am going to try 33x10.5x15w next spring, based on input from a couple of sharp cookies here up
I am guessing you dropped at least 4 to 5 lbs per tire? Did you see any down track performance gains?

I am using a 12 in wheel and 13.5 to 14.0 lbs. in tire. Also using tubes but also used them in the Goodyears.

Did not see any significant increase in ET/MPH performance but they are close enough in size I did not expect to see any. Just happy they work so well and are lasting this long. I usually put 2 sets of the Goodyears on each season but car would be all over the place between sets after 20 or so passes.. Also tried regular Hoosiers and MT but not with any luck. Was going to try radials as a last resort when I found this size was close to what I needed.

I am going to try them again to start the new year and see how long they continue to last.

I've been running Hoosier 18240 stiff sidewalls for 13 yrs. They last longer but I do run tubes also on a light car. I have carried 1.165 in the delay at Norwalk with this combo.

Stiff sidewall tire is about the best thing you can do to a big car or a ladder bar car

I went to the 30 x 9 Hoosier radial slicks that I run on the street and track. I don't know if they are considered stiff sidewall but they are much stiffer then the older wrinkle wall slicks were. I love them because my car has radials up front being a street car and it handles so much better then when I had a bias slick or street tire in the back. Its so much nicer with no wander or following the lines in the road at all any more and no walking on the top end at the track. Ron
