Been talking with a neighbor on a newer Charger and a guy who works at Harbor Freight who actually has one ... He had a 14 that was flooded out by the Harvey rain that hit here ... 33 mpg on the hwy at 75 mph ? Is that a puff ? .... Also have a friend up in Meeeeeechigan who is an interested party.

My '13 Penta would get 32-33 from here to Detroit that included going through the mountains. It's actually a great package with the 8-speed, good economy and pretty quick for a large heavy (and comfortable) sedan.

Only got rid of it because the wife wanted an RT in '15.

Only got rid of that because she wanted a Scat Pack in '17.

Cruise usually set on 80 for that trip. RT was 27-28, same trip. Scat was 24-25 the only time I made the trip with it. I believe the PD version is the same 5.7 in the RT, but can't swear to it.

I love my '11, after over seven years and 82,000 miles. Man, turn the EVIC to Fuel Economy on a highway trip and watch the bar peg (40 mpg, judging by the spacing on the other numbers). I've had the lifetime average as high as 32.9.

My 2012 300 had the 3.6L - GREAT engine - it was RWD. Highway routinely 32-33 MPG, 25 around town. Now my 2014 300 is the 3.6L also, but it's AWD. BIG difference in fuel mileage - maybe 26-27 max hwy, & 19-20 around town. Looking at buying a '16 now in RWD - I'd like to find a hemi 300, but I'm not even sure you could get a hemi in a 300 in 2016 - finding none for sale.

300 has a much nicer interior than the Charger & they sell used for a little less than Chargers, plus I really like the looks of both.

A 300 MIGHT BE a consideration too ... Was there a trans issue in the earlier ones !

We have a 14 Charger with the 3.6 and 6 speed, it's a great car. It has good power, it handles well and it's comfortable. The last trip we took I checked the mileage on the way home, mixed 75 mph on the four lane to 45 on a two lane in the pouring rain and it got 27.8. This doing the math not the onboard computer.

We just traded our '15 SXT Plus Challenger for an '18 SXT Plus Charger. Absolutely loved the performance and fuel economy of the 3.6. Easily got over 30 mpg at 75 mph. I fully expect the same from the Charger, maybe better as the Charger doesn't have Super Track Pack as the Challenger did so it has a slightly taller rear gear.

I had a 2007 Charger 2.7L base model for a company car - drove it for 7 years & it had around 130,000 - no trans issues at all. Then I bought the 2012 & 2014 - no trans issues at all. However, I've had HVAC issues with my 2014 since I bought it July 2016 - it had 21,000 miles on it. Problems like no heat blowing in cold weather, then I play with the controls a little & turn the fan off & on, then the heat starts blowing. Made a note of this to my dealer while the car was under 36,000 miles as the problem was sporadic. Now it has 85,000 & is still on the fritz. I'm not sure if it's the controller, or the 15 little trap door solenoids all going wacky. Someone started another thread on this - he said these systems were a nightmare & the solenoids were cheap little POS - ticking time bombs.

FWIW, one of my reps has been driving Chrysler T&C minivans since the early 2000's. He buys them used with typically 60-80,000 miles, drives them hard as he's on the road every week, takes them up to 240,000-340,000 & he has NEVER had a trans or engine let go - usually fairly minor stuff like fuel pump or radiator. He does all the recommended stuff like timing belts & water pump with them, oil changes, etc. That's quite a testimonial.

itis ... all those gauges to impede the free movement of your putty TAT ? .. Pu them into a fiberglass dash and that will clean up the aero enuff to maybe give you 8 to 10 mph !!

2014 Challenger with V6 and five speed would only break 30 mpg if at 65 mph, Charger with the better aero and 8 speed would do better.

I have one, stumbled across it last April. A loaded hemi powered 300S, plenty of power, at a loss of ~ 4 MPG on my commute.

Question for the 3.6L owners. Who has had the oil filter housing crack & oil leak issue? I had it happen at 38,000 miles. Fixed under warranty. This is VERY common on this engine.

Been thinking of a glass dash, the monter tach is gone with just a shift light on top of the column and the 4 gauges on the cowl are gone as well.Cluster is gone with flat aluminum to hold the race pack dash.
I shed 200 lbs last year! Jenny Craig diet.......

Mine went 80,000 miles before I traded it for the '16, no problem with that. Mine was a '13, the filter changed in '14, dunno if that matters to the failure or not?

I did have all 24 rocker arms replaced under warranty shortly before I traded it.

What happened with the rocker arms - what was the giveaway that they were bad? I know about these as well. Do ALL the 3.6L rocker arms go bad? (how would some go bad, & others not?)

When mine is cold, the motor taps like crazy for about 2 miles then quiets down. Do all the 3.6's do this?

I don't think so, mine didn't.

Rocker arms, last winter I noticed a sound like an exhaust leak. Since I was approaching the end of warranty on time I took it in and had it checked. 5 bad rocker arms, all 24 were replaced with an updated part.

I've seen videos where people replaced a single rocker arm, appears the roller fails, allows slack, reduces valve lift and makes noise. I didn't hear clatter / clicking, closest I could describe was an exhaust leak. 2¢ FWIW, YMMV, ect.

It happened on my '14 Ram at about 45k miles. Also covered under warranty. It's the only problem I've had with the 3.6.

The 2.7 was junk right up through the end, dont get tempted to buy one as they are timebombs waiting to go, I buy them dirt cheap with blown 2.7s frequenctly and swap in a 3.5 from a wreck and make nice reliable sellable cars. I still have the 3.92 gears in my 2010 from the 2.7 (most 3.5s haev 3.65 gears) so MPG is probably down a hair and aceleration up a hair from a factory 3.5 car.

I get mid 20s with my current 2010 swapped charger and I dont drive it easy. Still find myself wishing I had hemi power though.

The 3.6 does everything better than the 3.5 except I don't know about reliability yet... MPG is better, power is better but still not a hemi and the couple MPG is still not worth the savings over having a hemi at your beckon. If I was getting 40 or 50 MPG I would be happy with a V6 but not when there is only 2 or 3 mpg savings.

The only time I like my V6 better is cornering, I will flat eat up a hemi in tight corners with 2 less cylinders worth of weight plus an aluminum block it has to be a couple hundred pounds lighter in the front plus the lighter smaller AL rear diff just makes my car very nimble in tight corners. Even my 2010 cop car wont go through the roudybouts here as fast as my V6. If it was a constant one switchback after another the V6 would be faster.

I am not causing global warming, I am just trying to hold off a impending Ice Age!

Our Police Chargers with 3.6 have NO complaints about power, that's for sure. Don't know what mileage is, but that would be irrelevant here. Still had some lifter noise develop on some pre '13's (stopped buying after that, sadly). From what I'm told it actually has to do with the cylinder head, especially on the one side (left bank IIRC). We had MANY of the 3.5's, and while not as fast, I don't care what anyone says, they are work horses. We still have several and with north of 150,000 miles, and have been beat to hell and are still going strong. I don't remember the engine and idle hours, but the highest mileage one had over 14,000 engine hours last time I looked out of curiousity. Many have been run low on oil several times because they've been hot seated when were short of cars, and people aren't checking like they should be! They just keep on running and running. And no noise! They absolutely do not get shut off for entire 10 hour shifts, and like I wrote, they get hot seated, so sometimes for 20 or 30 hours straight, and so much idle time in this brutal Florida Summer.

Facts are stubborn things.

Family member had a V6 Charger in the previous body style and it ate front tires and started using oil when it hit 100k. They traded it in on a new one, also V6 powered.

I'd take a 300 instead as they look better.

Could someone please share their real world gas mileage with a 3.6 V6 in a Charger or 300 AWD? The sticker says the AWD gets 3 mpg less on the highway and 1 mpg less in town. Just curious what people are actually getting for mileage on the AWD.
Thank you!

My 2014 AWD 3.6 300 gets about mid-26's on the highway, & maybe 20 around town. The RWD does much better than this. My 2012 300 RWD got an honest 32 on the highway, & 25 around town. BIG difference. I'm starting to look for a 2016 RWD 300 now. Thinking of selling the white 2014 - it's got 85,000 miles.
