A while back my total at McDonald's was $4.87, so I gave the girl $5.12 in order to receive a quarter in change.

She looked at what I handed her for a second, puzzled.

I told her to enter the amount into the cash register and it would all work out.

Her jaw dropped! She handed me my quarter and said "How did you do that?"

The correct spelling is "of". Something I learned in kindergarten whistling biggrin

iagree Seems to me it all started with the ME generation and most of the millennials are a product of their parenting (or lack of).

I just checked my calendar and it's not time yet to complain about getting old – we still need another week.

Not at all.

My father had to cross a bit of a gorge with a river running through it. Down one side and back up the other. It was up hill both ways.

Just sayin.

Maybe we should just stop breeding so much. That way, we can reduce the amount of stupid people we have on this planet.

Meh, there are smart people and there are idiots in every generation.

In 1991 I was in a college level geography course--we were studying the middle east. We were looking at a map of the Nile river and there was a guy who simply could not grasp how the water in the Nile defied gravity and flowed "up". Took about 10 minutes for the teaching assistant to explain to him that "north" on a map is not "up". Finally had to take the map off the wall and lay it flat on the floor for the light bulb to finally come on above his head. He dropped the class.

However, she proceeded to refer to the lumber price sheet to determine the correct code to type in.
She was having considerable trouble when she turned to look at a young, early twenties guy leaning against the counter behind her and asked "How many feet is 96 inches?"
He rolled his eyes toward the ceiling and started to concentrate as he uttered "Ummmmm...".
Once I was over my initial disbelief at what I was witnessing, I offered "96 inches is 8 feet. Divide 96 inches by 12 which is how many inches are in a foot."
She looked at me amazed and said "Really, it's 8 feet? Ok, so 2x8x96 is a 2x8x8 right?"

Just imagine that in metric, 20.32 x 20.32 x 243.84?

I wouldn't say that their only chance is in manufacturing. Maybe in your area. In my area the jobs are in the deep gas field, if you have a good work ethic. One of our son's best friends, a 20yr old with only a HS dipomla, is currently taking home $1468.00 (+ 125.00 a day per diem) a week (6 day week) as a swampper in the gas field as a non-union employee. His parents are ex-amish so his work ethic is very strong.

I have had to deal with students like that before. Now it is even worse because many of them use "state legalized" MJ and think it does not affect their mental capacities. Sorry, but it does over time upon constant usage (and it shows). It will be fun to watch what happens to them when they start to turn old....

When my wife was going to college at Slippery Rock in the early 90's one of the girls had a melt down in the local convenience store when there was no twist lid milk left and she had to get milk in a cardboard container. She did know how to open it or how it was going to get "sealed up" once she did open it. How did this kid get through high school as I've only known schools to have cardboard container milk. Remember, this was in the 90's and well before millennial's so the decline has been going on for a while.

That's the joke... of course it's impossible to go uphill both ways.

Going to school he went downhill, across a bridge, and uphill.
Going home he went downhill, across a bridge, and uphill.

He went uphill in both directions.
Perhaps he went downhill both ways.

Just sayin.
