Today I had a buddy fly in from out of town. We had the Cuda loaded with 4 pax. It felt different on the unshift, not like a 500lb difference kind of like the clutch was little soft on upshift but you know it's not the clutch.... I then rotated the tires. Just as I finished this service a newer Stang comes along. We "admired" the Mustang who was "admiring" us, we ended up impressing him more than he impressed us . I still knew we had more he would have liked normally it was just seemed to be lacking all of a sudden. It was falling short. I drove it again by myself hr's later it seemed ok until I left a light and maybe let out the clutch hard, I almost thought I dropped the drive shaft. It did nada. It gave out completely. If I tried to drive/left/accelerate real soft staying under 1500 rpm it "broke free" or let go. Sounded like the banging upon accel attempts/failures came from the diff.

If a Sure Grip quits griping it acts like an open differential.
Sounds like something broke and not the SG being wore out.

I once swapped the gears on an 8.8 that had a clutch type limited slip. Every ear was tore off the discs and nary a sound. No limited slip action either.

Spider gears in the sure-grip unit could have broke teeth off as well. Thanks all, I suspect mechanical damage. It could be the centerforce clutch but I didn't hear or feel anything up front or through the pedal. I won't have time to look at it tonight, I have to take my buddy to the airport shortly. I'll try tomorrow, or it will have to wait until Saturday.

I was trying to wrap my head around how the diff would become "open" when it the sure grip tried to couple both axles..... the bolts that hold the halves of the suregrip unit together are coming out (if they are not actually broken too). The spider gear shows some damage as well. My 741 3.91 gears are in great shape thank goodness since they don't make them. Holy sheet! Can you post a pick? Sounds like the whole diff unit is trash.
