Getting ready to build a 440. Will be using TrickFlow 240 heads and a Comp flat tappet 23-631-5 which I planned on getting the nitride treatment. I saw AndyF's article about also using the 2901-16 EDM lifters for extra safety. When I looked up those lifters it said they used pushrod oiling? I've assumed the HS rockers for the trickflow head were still oiled via the shaft? Is there something i'm missing if I do wish to run these EDM lifters? Thanks!

The edm lifters are based on the AMC lifter, so they have pushrod oiling...... cuz AMC’s use it.

You don’t want pushrod oiling?
No biggie...... just get pushrods with no holes.

I'm for whatever works. Thanks Dwayne. Didn't want to keep bothering you via email. So the rockers will still get oiling via shaft and all I need to do is buy 3/8 pushrods etc. with holes and it will run oil up to the rocker tip as well as oil the lobe? I assumed since lifters already were fed via the gallery that they'd pressurize that small hole anyway. I've been out of the engine game for way too long to remember half this stuff. :-)

You can oil both through the head and up the pushrods if you want, but unless the cam is pretty aggressive and the spring pressures quite high, I’d do one or the other.

With HS rockers and a flat tappet cam, I’d just use the oe style oiling.

I guess my main question was how did the tip of the HS roller rocker and cup of the pushrod get oiled using the stock setup?

HS rockers don’t have any provision to oil the tip, whether you pushrod oil or not.
Valves and springs are oiled by the “oil mist” inside the valve cover when using those rockers.

There is a splash hole in the rocker body that directs oil into the pushrod cup that’s fed by the oil in the shafts.

That is the “normal” oiling set up.

It's not a bad idea to restrict and send a little oil up the PRs to eliminate the possibility of burnt cups.

HEMI-ITIS has no cure.
My condition is fully BLOWN!!

I use them EDM lifters as I have one of Dwayne's cams and he supplied the lifters and nitrided my flat tappet cam. I just use the stock rocker shaft oiling as the solid pushrod blocks the hole in the lifter. I have been running my eng like that since 2011 and it carries good oil pressure as it runs around 50 to 60 psi warmed up cruising along and about 40 at idle in gear. I use these Hughes roller tip rockers. Ron

I get my lifters from Comp Cams. I order them without pushrods oiling. My thought is why do I want 16 little oil leaks when I don't need it? I too order them with the EDM oil hole on the face. I've never had a oiling problem with this combo.

....there is nothing like driving my 1968 Hemi Dart around town and having people looking at you like you're nuts!!

I have W-2 and W-5 heads..both oil via the PRs..
and the W-2s have EDM holes.. all I do is put a
1/16" NPT plug in the port in the block before
I put the heads on.. been working fine for a few
years now.. I do have restricted PRs.. I just
set up the W-5s and checked the oil flow yesterday
and it looked great.. both sets use the TD multi shaft
rockers
