Anyone here don’t this? Trying to not hurt anything. The original mount has a threaded tube that the oil filter screws on, it that just threaded into the block? The 5.7 and 6.4 have a hex head I believe.

Figured I would see if anyone here has done this before I did anything stupid like throw some vice grips on it.......

Thanks

Jason

The nipple the oil filter screws onto is just threaded into the block. It does have to come out to install the factory oil filter adapter. Whatever you use to take it out, vise grips or the like, make sure they are in good working order. That threaded nipple is really in there. I used my Knipex Cobra (or Alligator) Pliers to remove it. They have an amazing bite though...

Sycboi,

Thanks much. I figured that was the case. I have some great channel locks, but I will look at those alligator pliers since you had success with them. I wrapped a rag around the nipple, and gave it a half ass try just to see if it would move. Not a chance.

Actually I have the Knipex Cobra Pliers. The only difference is the adjustment part of them. Either will work though. As far as the rag around the threaded nipple to protect it, good luck with that. Just bite directly into the nipple itself. If you ever need a new one they are available readily for around $10. The one in there is most likely never coming out unscathed...

The nipple is loctited from the factory. Heat it up with a small propane torch and use the CORRECT SIZE allen wrench and it will come out and be re useable.

6.1 hemis do not have the hex head. 5.7 and 6.4 do to the best of my knowledge.

5.7 Hemis don’t either, at least none that I’ve ever seen...

The instructions on the adapter I bought stated 5.7 and 6.4 s have a 12mm hex head. Might be broken down by year.

Both the 5.7’s I removed them from were pre-vvt engines. Maybe that’s the difference...

03-08 5.7 have the same pipe as the 6.1's the VVT 5.7s and 6.4s have the New pipe with the hex head.
