Never used the papers even with aluminum heads and or intake.I install mine dry.I use the pan that has the block off built in.Just a bit of silicone in the 4 corners and a bit where the hold downs go.Never a problem since the 60s when I started working on them.Rocky

don't use the papers unless the manifold has been milled to compensate for them.

Just did this on a 383 using a felpro Valley Pan. I agree with all of the above. No leaks! Just clean up your surfaces. Torque to proper spec and sequence. I used “the right stuff” in the corners and hold down area. I hear the stuff in the small tube that comes with the gasket is not that good but I never had any personal experience with it to comment on it’s sealing ability.

Set the intake gaskets on the head and use some Gasket Cinch to hold them in place and then install the valley pan loosely to see if it fits snugly or has a gap between the gasket and pan with the intake manifold place on top of the pan scope If it is loose try adding the other gasket on top of the pan, if it is tight with one and the manifold bolt holes look like they are near the top of the valley pan remove the gasket and see if that fits better scope
Every motor is different so you need to check the fit and use what fits the best up
