Are the seats all the same? I know the covers and tracks differ but the seat itself interchange? seems to be plenty of E body cores but slim pickins on the a A body ones.

1970 & early 1971 are the same.

Various differences after that.

A, B & E frames the same within the same time period.

Got photos of what you are looking at?

I am needing some for my 70 Swinger and ebay has some 73-74 E body cores. If there are slight differences I don't really care as long as the cover fits, car is far from original but I want to get rid the drag seats and at least get the inside halfway decent

You could use those seat if you had to but you'll need A body tracks

The later 71 and 72-74 e-body upper seat frames do not the have the springs attached to the frame... the springs are built into the foam. Not worth the hassle to try and make them work.

Late '71 still has the inner 'spring basket'.

1972 up does not.

They changed during 71... Some will have it, some won't. I've had more than one late 71 seat without them. The only way to be sure is to see the seat with the back cover off.

The 1972 model year started in July of 1971.

The dates I used above are model years, not calendar years. wink

I'm talking actual 71 seats, not for 72 cars.

72-74 seats have soft seat backs, 70-71 have hard backs...

Soft backs start to appear late 1973 or so from what I have seen so far.

Yes and have saw a few that had the earlier with springs attached to the frames seats in 72-74 year cars also. I can't say if it was factory, dealer done or what... but like I said, only way to be sure is to pull the cover and check. All were original seat covers also.

73 Challenger built October of 72. No hard seat backs.

As mentioned earlier, only the outside track has a lock. The inside track is free to move around all the time.

At least in the Es the seats were soft from early on. My actual production date Nov 24, 1972 was soft.
