I have a crank which has a lil bit of pitting on the rear main seal area.

Is there an undersize rear main seal I can use so I can cut the crank undersize there and have a seal that will work?

you want oversize, so you can undersize the crank

not that I know of. if the area is pitted, you would need to weld it and have it reground on size

What kind of crank is it? Stock or 4340?
Is metal spraying an option?

A rope seal might work with a "lil bit" of pitting.

iagree
I learn to hate those type seal back when I was using and building the early Chrysler Firepower Hemi motors before I got enough knowledge on how to install them so they didn't leak shruggy
Make sure and get the crank seal area as flat as you can before on those seals before installing them up No rope short pieces long enough to get between the cap and block either tsk
Good luck on getting it sealed up up

I would work hard to avoid welding a Bryant crank. I'm not sure the material is very amenable to successful welding. Bryant cranks are supposedly EN30B or their own special blend of 4330V or 4330M. Below is a link describing a welding process for 4330V. While fixing a hole seems like it may be much simpler, it may or may not require preheat and/or postheat.

I'd rather use JB Weld.

Pitting is slight....but enough to feel it when you drag your fingernail over it, and I was worried that might cause damage to a rubber seal...

I was planning on polishing it...it might take around 3 thou i guess.

I wonder if I take 3 thou off it I will still be able to use a 2 piece rubber seal. I could shave some off the seal cap to achieve some more press on the seal against the crank....

....but if not, I guess I could always use a rope seal like suggested above....

It took 4 thou to clean up the crank seal surface.

Do you guys think I can still use a regular 1 piece rubber seal?

Or do I risk it and I should better use a rope seal instead?

I would install the front and rear main bearings and upper seal with wheel bearing grease around the seal surface and install the top of the seal in the seal holder on the crankshaft installed in the motor with no side seals and tighten it up and then spin the crank around and then take hard look at the contact pattern on the seal surface on the crank after removing the top of the seal in the seal holder and go from there scope twocents
Good luck thumbs
