Laying down the long range plan for my rest-o-mod for the 1979 Dodge Ramcharger I recently purchased. The hood is pretty plain, and while I would like a TA style center hood scoop, an aftermarket fiberglass hood with a TA center hood scoop is is not available for the truck.

The original hood has a raised center rib, so to reuse/modify the hood, I will have to go the route of two hood scoops.

I was recently watching Graveyard Carz, and saw the 1970 Coronet R/T convertible restoration, and thought the N96 hood scoops would look great on my truck.

Then, as an afterthought, wondered could the under hood fresh air system for a B-body, or A-body be mounted under the hood to make the two scoops functional?

Anyone with experience with the N96 option hazard a guess?

Mike

With some fabrication skills, time & money, why not?

Not functional in this case, but the scoops required a lot of hand fitting to match the hood contours.

Seems to me it would be all that hard to trim a hood scoop to fit.

To clarify, the hood is relatively flat, and the scoops should bolt right on.

My question is would it be possible to mount the (under hood) system to the truck hood and make the system function-able to the air filter assembly.

Well: You will have to fill about a foot of space with ducting or maybe space the aircleaner up about a foot towards the hood to make it functional.

I bought a Spectra Ram Air kit from Summit for my D150. Its a chrome closed air cleaner with two hoses that can be mounted were you want. I put a hole in the radiator support next to the radiator and installed a screen in front. It pulls fresh air from behind the grill. I was going to mount the other duct on the other side between the battery and radiator ,my 92 D150 has a duct on the right side between the battery and inner fender that pulls air from beneath the turn signal. thats were the factory single snorkel air cleaner got air from. I just hooked the other hose to it. My D150 has a 5.2 ( 318) I found a red and silver 318 air cleaner sticker at Carlisle and put it on, it almost looks factory

That may be just the right combo.

Thanx!

USbodysource offers a bolt on, or a pin on fiberglass hoods for your truck, they offer a stock hood, a "Challenger R/T" scooped style hood and of course the lowly GM cowl hood, but they do have a custom build option of adding any scoop that they make to the hood of your choice (within reason), and they do make the T/A hoods....might be worth a call?

Unlimited makes a bolt/rivet on T/A scoop. You'll note it has a spot for a raised line down the center for "flat" hoods. If you know anyone with a flat hood challenger you might want to throw a contour gauge on the center line and see how it compares to the ramcharger line.

I would think it would be way easier to get a single central scoop's air straight down to you air cleaner than trying to make two ducts that line up to the two scoop option.
