Hello, helpful Moparts types! Hoping someone can provide some advice here...
I recently went to install a set of MP torsion bars (Part number P5249160: 1.16 dia. bars) I purchased online many years ago, into my 1970 Satellite. These bars were purchased in 2002.
Both bars have the numbers "462R" above, with "329" below stamped onto the end of the bar.
I am under the impression that torsion bars are left and right-specific, with (duh...) the right indicated with an R, and the left with an L right there on the ends of the bars.
My questions are these...
- Due to the "462R" stamping, do I have two right-hand bars?
- If I do, considering that these bars are long since out of circulation, am I completely FUBARed?
- If they are both right-hand bars, can they still be used?
- Anything else I should know?
Thanks in advance, Moparts people!

???? If they have never been used, what is wrong with installing them? Who says that they can only twist in one direction? What makes you think that the metal knows what direction they are supposed to resist twisting? I have swapped bars side to side and have never had a problem. The 1.0 bars I had in the Charger were pulled and swapped into a 71 Road Runner 2 years ago and I didn't put them in that car the same way they came out of mine.
We are talking a huge torsion bar here...Not some slant six, no A/C .85 bars. A 1.16 is big.

torsion bar ends are clocked to some extent. At a certain thickness they no longer have that clocking and are the same, left or right. 1.16" bars fall into that category, there is no left or right.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

If they do not have any offset then you can use them on either side. The bigger bars do not have an offset so they are not R or L. Lay the bars on a flat surface and see if each end lays flat. If so then they are not offset twisted so that means you can use them on either side.
