I am trying to finish up my 65 coronet and need to get the rear cut. It is mini tubbed and the springs moved into the frame. What do you guys have for a housing width and what width wheel are you using and backspacing? I don't want the wheel/tire to be too far under I like the look of the tire being out close to the wheel lip. I don't have wheels yet so I am starting from scratch. Any help much appreciated.

The 1965 B body rear end is the best stock rear end housing to use on the 1962 to 1965 B bodies up
All the rest of the 1966 and later axle housing , including the 1965 station wagon rear ends, are wider shruggy
As far as what your asking on how wide of rims (the offsets will be determine after determining the width shruggy) and what tire size do you want to use?
I would take a carpenter square pushed up against the axle with the brake drum on and measure from the inner surface of it to the narrowest part of the inner wheel wheels on the inside and the outside to determine what wheel width I could use on that car and go from there scope
The wider the wheel width you use the straighter the section width will be using the same size tire size on different wheel widths work scope
I haven't messed with a 1965 Dodge B body in a long time so I can't really tell you what you want to know exactly blush
Hopefully some one else with real knowledge on your car will chime in with some helpful advise on this luck

I use a factory B-body Dana 60 under my '65 with a 315/45-17 tire.

That is cool. I'd forgotten where those rims went. I had them custom built to fit my car with a stock width rearend so they probably fit your car pretty well.

'65-'67 B-body, all body styles, same same. '62 and '63 are an inch narrower but have the taper axles.

I'd recommend you decide on a wheel & tire, and mock up from there. Most wheels are only available in certain backspaces & widths, and/or the custom sizes are pretty expensive.

65 coronet with a mini tub on a 15” wheel have about 7” of back space.

About 6.75 or so as I recall. I can measure mine soon if it helps.

Mine is 50 3/4" axle flange to axle flange including the brake hat thickness. For a 63 Dodge with 15x12 wheels with 4" backspace. That being said I would go with the suggestion of having the wheels and tires first. Try to keep the backspace in the 3"to 4" range for wheel and tire installation and removal.

find the tire that will fit the wheel well, then a rim that will give a normal sidewall bulge and backspace. Bolt axels to the rim (old set cut shorter works great) slide a pipe over the axels to keep straight, let the car down on the tire combo then move or position them to where they fit with good clearance all around at ride height. Then measure to both backs of rim, there's your size to make the housing.
There are no shortcuts unless someone has the identical setup you want (not often)

I buy my wheels/tires first and do the rear after. Since I do my own narrowing also, I do that first, then axles last in case my measurements are off laugh2

This is how I did mine but on an E Body. We made the wheels fit the car. Mine are 15' X 12" with a 6.5" B.S.

Here are a couple of pictures with my car on the ground. I have more than average backspace on the rear wheels. I like it that way but other prefer a different look. Having a lot of backspace can be a hassle when it comes time to install the wheels. You also usually need custom rims which can be expensive.

If you are going to run a rear seat you'll also need to get the seat frame cut down. I'm working on that project right now for my '65. If it is a drag only car then you can skip that step.
