So I am looking at this tranny correct for 67-68 Auto Hemi cars 2801544
I found this tranny and have alot of questions about pan rail number. I have never seen an H before the part number only a PK. Also it should have number 2 before the 333 for a date code, did it just not get stamped.

I did find this old thread on here just now talking about the H before part number and the first number of the date code missing.

So it should be all correct maybe?

Blewbyu,

Just for comparison, my numbers are a bit faint but still readable. This is the original hemi trans for my 68 RR (May 68 build).
PK2801544K 2413 0178 I had in my notes that it decoded to 6 March 1968, #178 built that day/shift.

I have two 68 Hemi transmissions and the two 4s look identical like this one.

Does anyone have a picture of a 67 tranny with a H on it that they could post?

My understanding is that if it has an "H" or "J" before the number it is a 67 trans, if "PK" it is 68 and later. twocents

in a recent thread there was a comment about the non-"PK" stampings being calendar year, & if the first digit of the date is missing on the 10,000 day calendar we would have the following:

(2)333 = Sunday 12/17/67 (H 1967 calendar year)
(2)361 = Sunday 1/14/68 (J 1968 calendar year)
(2)379 = Thursday 2/1/68 (J 1968 calendar year)

any of these that would've been factory installed in a 1968 model year car should have a partial VIN stamped on the top of the bell housing area

work

perhaps the date & unit # format was changed between the above February '68 & March '68 dated transmissions

February 1 (1st week of month & weekly unit number)
March 6 (dated daily & daily unit number)

any close examples any engines?

work work

& of note is the suffix "K" on the part number of the March '68 transmission, which changed to "L" at some point & seemed to continue as a "L" for a number of years

is this a progression of the year prefix "H" "J" seen on the other transmissions, that became obsolete but remained for no purpose shruggy

'62 or '63 727 Max Wedge transmission

It is simply a continuing assembly number that is carried on year after year. the C suggests it was assembled in the second half of the 62 calendar year. a D in front of it would indicate the first half of 63. then E and F would be the 64 model year, G and H would be the 65 model year, etc. I think your tranny could very well have been out of a 300J that was likely assembled late in 62 or early 63. it would fit a lot of max wedge cars built around the same time frame. it should be worth at least 500 hundred dollars to someone trying to make a maxie as correct as possible.

C * 1962
D * 1963
E * 1964
F * 1965
G * 1966
H * 1967
J * 1968

10,000 day calendar

0571 = Tuesday 2/19/63 * ?? - unit # 745
(0)057 = Saturday 9/23/61 doesn't fit with 9/62 casting - unit # 1745
(1)057 = Friday 6/19/64 fits as a replacement part - unit # 1745

none of these fit with the "C" being full or second half of '62 calendar year

So when did PK start? What does it mean?

Including more recent builds like front wheel drive and so earlier units, we had a transmission plant in Mexico (Toluca) and we had the original Syracuse plant that built the manuals (NPG = new process gear) - those transmission from NPG had the PP stamped in them.

NPG later because NVG = New Venture Gear when we partnered with GM.
