If it’s priced right snag it. Check to your comfort level.
Unfortunately when you go to sell that car people will get all twisted up, contorted, and maybe have seizures when they find out you put a bad year, off year, or whatever they call it block in it. Because that matters a lot. Just talk to joe average. He’ll tell you. Can’t do that. Not allowed. Against rules. Nope.
“Know what ya shoulda done...” Agreed. If resale is a concern some guys get their panties in a twist over things like having a 'date coded' block. To me either you have the original engine or not but some guys see value in having the right year of engine. Beyond that, the later blocks are slightly preferable to me. I have a spare 76 440 I keep under the bench.

^ Spoken like a guy that hasn’t sold a Mopar. Ever. I've sold numerous Mopars - just haven't sold one recently

Then you have to have seen people get all stomping mad about a block. C’mon. I once sold a stroker, well built 74 block. Guy lost his mind because of it not being an early block and wouldn’t buy it. For example.
I want my fair share

For example. No I haven't seen that, nor could I understand why some one would do that. If the block was misrepresented as a different year then I could understand. If I was going to go buy a stroker I really couldn't care if it had a a 68, 70, 74 or 77 440 as long as it was built right.

OP,
I think the block year 73 is fine, how'd it sound running? Why's he selling it? If you've done you due diligence, the year block should not hold you back on a deal.
Good luck!!

The ones with the distributor in the front are best.
Kevin I have a 440 with the distributor in the back and it runs like a scalded dog.
